HEY!!!
Im a 17yr Old girl in Armidale, NSW. I recently Purchased a Silver AU Fairmont (99) and its Pretty standard, and in pretty good condition. It has the factory sunroof.. and thats about it. (ANd yes!!! I bought it not my Mum n DAD) Coming from a Ford Loving Family, The first veichle i owned after gettin my P'S was a Ford Corsair.. and I Thought an AU would be the best way to go for me, as i have a bit of a history with them (Mum has an AU XR6-ex police chaser in which i learnt to drive) Ive been looking at TS50 Bodykits.. and Chrome rims.. as I want to have it looking schmick! I want to do a few motor modifications but am unsure of how to go about it as of the HIGH PERFOMANCE P PLATER RESTRICTIONS.. Anyone who can help me with ANY ideas.. Please email me moto_x_playgirl@hotmail.com Thanks Heaps, Danii [XoXoX] |

Stuff the bodykit, if it isn't a Tickford enhanced AU outta their workshop then it doesn't deserve their body kit (IMO). Get yourself a nice set of rims (chrome, if that's your fancy) and drop it a tad. Fairmonts have that touch of class and don't require body add ons. Save the bodykit dosh for performance enhancements. Sorry I can't help with your 'P' resrictions in NSW. Us Mexicans have different regulations. Get a pic of your silver bullet onto this forum. Can never be enough classy Fairmonts!

Definately some nice rims and lower springs are the go. Don't bother going bigger than 18". You don't want to lose the ride quality. There are some BA rims that are mint on an AU (BA Fairmont, BA XR 18's, G220 rims spring to mind). A bootlip spoiler (if thats your thing) would finish it off nicely. Don't forget the interior though. Thats where you spend most of your time so its where you'll feel the improvements most. And don't forget the tint.
As far as the performance mods go, its probably better to let them wait unitl you get off your P's and focus on the car's looks. The time goes pretty quickly if you keep your licence. Check out the workshop biuld section for ideas. Post up some pics.

Hey EVERYONE! First I would like to thank you's for your input...
Maybe I was thinking along the wrong lines with the bodykit.. even though it looks so sweet... Ive booked the Fairmont in For Friday to get tinted windows...and Ive been looking around at Rims.. Cant decide exactly what I want though because I want them to be different... Originality is the key to success. Umm the Fairmont already has the spoiler (the boot lid), and it has the factory electric sunroof.. i think i already mentioned that.... So Its got a bit of class... Im sick of being told to take "MUMMY N DADDYS CAR HOME" especially considering it had NOTHING to do with them, I payed for it LOL... I dont tell all these pretty boys, in their VX Commodores, and so on to take their's back to their parents. hahaha.. Umm as for the managing to hold onto my license for the whole time.. I havent been booked as yet hey... "AS YET" being key words... I used to be a bit of a ******** in my old car... doin stupid stuff.. dont play up in the fairmont... but have taken a couple of corners a little too fast... lol.. oh and havent indicated of a roundabout (LOL DUMB LAW)... so im goin alright! Well SIMON.. Happy Birthday for the 15th.. Im on the countdown to my 18th... I checked out your AU... its pretty sweet!!! I love the rims ... Well I've Got a bit over a month and a half (i like saying it that way instead of a bit under 2 months.. doesn't seem so long.. hahaha)... so yeah just deciding what to do... coz ive been going to the pubs n clubs here since i was 16... maybe i'll have to head somewhere else for it!! And god its sooo good to see the support for the AU's.. especially for the younger people (i cant talk i seem to be the youngest) but... Im just so excited u rnt all going up a VT Commodore with a HSV Bodykit. .and Cheap chromies... with 2 12' subs.. that seems to be the common thing these days... HAHAHAH... |

I agree, not even 350kW is enough to make a VT/VX worth driving. You wont get any more comments about it being mummy's or daddy's car once you've finished. :hihi:
Its worth taking the time to search out the regulations for P platers and finding out what you really can and can't do. You'll be surprised how much truth is lost through the media. Once you get started modding away, post up a build blog here. I also recommend photochopping wheels onto your car before you buy them. Examples here. Matt

I reckon, hold off on the bodykit for a little while.
Do the main things: - Tint - Suspension - Wheels - Exhaust This will give you some power, while still looking good. Then when the bodykit comes along, perhaps go for the Tickford Kit, like Glenn's car. Very nice!! If it were me, and I were re-doing my car, I'd have a closer look at the HO rear bar. Also there are a few cheap, but effective interior mods, which increase the look by 10 times. Cheers

With the P plate mods, You'll be fine with pretty much anything this side of turboing or supercharging the car.
Putting in a higher ratio'd LSD diff and a stallie would be my first step. Then King Spring superlows with some nice rims. Then extractors, 2.5" exhaust and intake. |

im now 19, and had a AU2 Fairmont since i was 17.
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=33219 and www.aufalcon.com/hlc the look fairly tops. i'd look at the Series 2/3 tickford body kit. but you will need a new series 2 rear bar. NSW laws. well you prolly cant avoid them.. Body kits are cool, as long as they dont stick out, or are able to stab people. -thats the legal limitations. there is a guide on the RTA website as to what's legal and whats not... Quote:
and i get the exact same thing HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

I reckon you should mags and get it lowered first... getting a decent bodykit will cost you a fair bit of money. plus cars with standard au rims (excludeing tickford rims) look ****. the mod thread on here should give you a good ideas on what to do to make your au a bit faster. By the sound of it you have a pretty good base to make your pizza :p . post some pics up when you get a chance.

Me thinks you should get the kit like you said you were going to get.. make it really stand out, then lower it on some nice 18's or 19's.. get an exhaust so they know your coming and all is sweet
PS. car chicks rule! lol |
