What really, really REALLY SHI*TS me is that you see all these idiot, moron do-gooders on ACA or Today Tonight, carrying on about Australian made groceries and how we should all buy Australian made, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah and then, you see them driving off in bloody BMW's, Audi's, Volvo's, etc.

Never, ever, do you see anyone attempt to infulence the buying public to purchase Australian made when it comes to one of the most expensive products that keep thousands and thousands of Australians in jobs. Nope. Let's just make sure we carry on about how we should all be buying Australian made peas in a can!!!

I have had expensive European, American and Japanese cars over the last 20 years. I always buy new (except the XP Coupe). Of all the cars I have owned in the last 30+ years, guess which product has given me less hassle than the foreign..... yep Holden. Funnily enough the only Holden I had engine trouble with was the RB30ET and even then it was gummed injectors and a blown radiator.

The VE Calais I own is a pearler, much better steering, cornering, etc than the so called luxury Euros I have had the displeasure of experiencing.

Once you get past brand loyalty, you become patently aware that local cars are quite satisfactory. Now if Holden would just ressurect the Torana, Ford the Capri, Mitsubishi the Sigma and somebody the real Mini Cooper S, we could have Bathurst back in the format it should be.

Id seriously have to think about this... im not very happy with the current Aussie cars my BA included i think the build quality is terrible. its a very plain car. Id be inclined to buy a Toyota Aurion next... And, unless the build quality goes up (which it doesnt look like) i dont think im ever going to buy another late model Ford

I will get an Australian car not due to quality or primarily to support, but I simply like Australian cars more than international ones. People overpay for things like Peugeots due to the badge when frankly, I'd rather drive a beat up XF Falcon, simply because I reckon all Falcons are great cars, regardless.

I will most likely get an Aussie car next even though I have had a few issues with the BA. Why? No import will offer the performance that I'm after for around the 24K mark. I may go over to the Holden for the reason that I have already mentioned. I'll probably come back to ford when the orion starts to appear in the used market.

Will always buy an Australian car, be it Holden or Ford. The only Japanese cars that interest me is the Toyota Hilux, the only European cars that interest me (excluding the supercars) are ones with the M badge.

I'm honestly not sure. Don't get me wrong, I love buying Australian cars, and I love my Falcon. But I'm due to update in about 12 months (just after the launch of Orion) - and I'm leaning towards a runout BFII Fairmont Ghia or maybe a Territory Ghia.

But the Fairmont's resale sucks while having good fuel economy, and the Territory guzzels fuel but holds it's value better. I hope when the time comes I can convince myself to get one or the other, but I think I'm going to end up going a top spec mid sized SUV with combination of better resale, better fuel economy, full list of features and better price tag. Well, even if the Mondeo is a supprise that could be on the cards, but that again, isn't Australian.

No, Aussie cars are brilliant vehicles but don't suit my needs at the moment.

Euro Fords for me until I need an Aussie Ford for the size and towing capacity. Then I'll always have a Euro Ford as a second car

A true research project would offer an "Other" option to capture those who don't conform to the 4 pre-determined questions and wouldn't skew your data as much by those forced to make a decision. You also need to make them more general, as clearly the ones you have restrict far too many people for reasons you haven't included, but who would still love an Aussie car is their needs were there. I for one would buy a Falcon anyday for a family, but having no family at the mo = smaller car.

I doubt that I will be buying another new locally made car, at least in the near future anyway.

If you’re happy with poor build quality, resale values that defy belief and a head office that treats its customer like something they scraped of the bottom of their shoe, go for it.

I’ll probably end up looking at Audi or Lexus in the future.

My next car will definitely be a Falcon or Commodore, and a V8 if i can get one. Why? As good as others are, no cars are better built to withstand the s*** that we Aussies put our cars through. In the past month, mum's beloved ED Fairmont (my old car) has helped my girlfriend move house by itself, hauled my old vw golf around to mechanics and cruised down to Phillip Island (and all around it's B-roads) still feeling tight as a drum. All this also while it has been in dire need of a service.

Show me a European or Japanese car that can take that kind of punishment without complaint, that's reasonably priced with as much equipment and able to lope across stupidly long distances while still feeling relaxed, and I'll get one. Otherwise, Australian all the way. I couldn't care less about resale, our cars have always been like part of the family. My Golf may be a fun little jigger, but whenever there is the slightest work to be done, or distance to be traveled, I know which car I'm taking.

Moved house numerous times, towed a few cars long distances, 50 odd passes at willowbank raceway, 350,000km on the clock and it dosen't leak or burn oil air conditioning is cold as and the car is reliable.

I am looking for another vehicle in the near future, but the ba/bf xtrange is out for the time being.

main reason being poor fuel economy, poor paint and panel finish and drivetrain issues etc.

(not all of them are bad, just the ones built on the days the boss was at the pub ;))

bring back the sigma rear wheel drive heh. cant stant fwd and its cv joint issues.

Sign of the times given that the government implemented the Button Plan that gave us much better locally manufactured vehicles and a much larger choice with the many imported vehicles reaching our shores.

I cant see much of a indigenous car industry where we spawn our 'own' motor vehicles. We will continue to design our cars but they will be built overseas. Australian manufacturing is going down the gurgler with all these free trade agreements.

When you see that most of Australia's population lies in cities with ever increasing traffic jams and associated fuel costs, large 6 cylinder cars are a dying breed. For this reason and many others that have been expressed here, you can see that the future doesn't bode well for FoMoCo in Australia when Falcon comes to mind.

BTW, my next car will most probably be another Aussie built car. Perhaps a terry.

My a to b car is a 1996 Mitsubishi Triton which does the job for me. Its a 4wd trayback so i can carry my dirtbike around. I cant see the point of getting a newy to do the same thing only costing more.

I think if holden or ford made a 4wd version of their utes with hydralic suspension so you could drive it on the road like a normal car, or jack it up for some bushwork they would sell a million of them.

As for a "recreational" car im currently looking for a coupe(along with everyone else)

And about Fords customer service, I know its no excuse but surely they have to sit through tons of hoons ringing up about a desintegrated gearbox. Must be Toyotas philosophy: make a car that will never look good doing a burnout down the whole street and you wont have to inspect so many of them for abuse :P

I have no doubt what so ever that Falcons are among the most abused cars on earth. You know those XDs and EAs that have never even been serviced properly since they were made and still hauling trailers around.

I have always been a ford man ever since I was little, but ever since buying my subaru, its hard to look to go back to a ford.

Yes, they can be a bit more expensive to service and repair, but I have to repair things less often on the subaru than I have ever done on the ford.

I also like the AWD on the subaru too. Its just a personal thing. Not for everyone, but feels safe.

Resale value is also a plus. You pay more to buy this kind of car, but to me its worth it.

It not perfect by any means, but I find its quality to be very good.

If I went back to a ford, it would have to be at least a ghia or something from the FPV stable.
