Default Flash tuner error code

Has anyone had error code 18 (unlock failure) come up when flashing their PCM? What does it mean & how to fix it?

WTF?

I picked it up from the post office, opened the box, read the instructions, plugged it into my car and tried to load tune #3. When I turn the ignition on, the 4 LED's flash code 18, which the doco says means "unlock failure". I suppose this means the PCM (powertrain control module AKA ECU) is not unlocking to accept the new tune.

I don't have any software to install on it and it hasn't been anywhere near a laptop. I wouldn't mind some of your drugs but :

I had the same problem with my box when I bought it. Had to send it to capa to get unlocked. Spiro tryed to load the tunes in, but it wouldnt load into the car and gave me error 18. Capa unlocked it for free.

I bought mine from KPM and it did the same thing, they swapped it for a new one straight away and said a few had done this.

Had to do the same with mine, lol. Not KPM's fault though, it was CAPAs fault, they were meant to be unlocked before being given back to KPM, and they werent (as is my understanding).

KPM have been right on it, responded to my email with a phone call early this morning. Tim had already made arrangements for me to send it straight to CAPA to sort out. Express posted it today - will be interesting to see CAPA's legendary customer service in action (yes I did mean to put the space in there : ).
