Yes, Eamon and I have bought a house! We are so excited and cant wait to move in!!! You see, I have been paying rent since 1992 and I have worked out that I have paid around $95K in rent. I am sick of paying rent, I am sick of routine inspections, paying bond, losing bond and sick of paying off someone else's mortgage!
We were going to build, in Mt Barker however the builder was going to take too long and it was turning into a real drama. So we saw a really nice place up for sale in the same area (same estate even) and decided to buy it! We went to have a look at it and fell in love with it, made an offer and the offer was accepted!!! We are now tying to sell the block we bought a while back, so we can use the money we make from it, to go towards the house. Settlement day for the house looks like being mid to late July, so we should be moving in around then. We are going to have a massive housewarming party in around September and hopefully a few of you guys from Vic will come along as well as the usual SA guys! It is going to be the XRchic/Cobra Party House (tm)! The house has 3 bedrooms plus a massive rumpus room which can be converted to a 4th bedroom or a pool room or something! Two bathrooms, nice kitchen and it is on a 800m2 block. It has a double lock up garage for both our cars, and also out the back is a double car shed! Eamon still drools when he sees pics of that shed! We thought of putting a hoist up, but I dont think the shed is tall enough. It also has a really great undercover pergola area out the back which will be great for the BBQs and drinking! Anyway, I dont seem to be able to put pictures up of the house (I seem to have reach my limit with pics on AFF) so I have just included the link, where there are heaps of pics. http://www.elders.com.au/branch/list...&branch_id=450 We are so excited and the idea of paying rent no longer, is just awesome and we cant wait to move in!!!

Thanks guys
Oh, I forgot to mention - the guy who now lives there in a computer geek in a big way and there are internet access points in every room in the house - there are even points where there are 3 phone sockets in one spot! And that shed is fully powered and even has an phone/internet access point!!! Yes, there is a big gate on the side of the house, so we can get straight down to the shed, and also there is a 3rd roller door on the rear of the garage so we can get whole cars right through to the shed if we have to. Only problem is, there are lots of gardens and I am a shyte gardener!!! * XRchic must remember to buy Cobra a lawnmower and gardening equipment!

Thanks guys! Yeah we are excited. Not the first people to ever buy a house, I know, but it is just so nice, after busting **** for so long and getting nowhere, to finally own a house!
Casper, yeah, it has all turned out well. Eamon has a good job and is much happier at this one than the previous one - they treat him much better here. Everything has gone really well since he moved over and its all great! And yes, re the mortgage slave - but at the end of the day I would rather spend a lot paying off the mortgage than end up paying off a whole house for someone else, which is what I have just about done, paying all that rent. We have been struggling paying off the block as well as paying rent, but we are probably going to make around $20K off the sale of the block and we have only had it for a few months, so the advantages of owning property are fairly clear As for the housewarming, I wasnt kidding - there is going to be a big one in around September (at this stage) and it would be awesome if a few people from the forums from Vic could get over! I am hoping quite a few of the SA forums guys will rock up too. Afterall, Eamon and I have the forums to thank for us being together at all!!!!

Thanks guys. Yeah, decisions are the key really. We had a choice between getting a new car - Typhoon was the most likely car choice, or the house. Cars aint investments, thats for sure. And we dont have enough cash to do both, so we went with the house. We can get a new car later.
Believe me, in my case especially, it has taken a long time and a long hard slog to get anywhere near being able to buy my own house. There have been bad decisions I have made in my life along the way, there have been really hard times, lots of study and hard work doing things I dont really like doing and lots of learning to get to this point - hence our excitement with it all. I also couldnt have done it without Eamon (Cobra). It is always easier to do these things as a team rather than alone and I think we are a really good team! :

XRated, the internet access is in the shed! Hehe. Just happens to be a double car shed with benches, etc... we have the double garage as well with the roller doors. The shed also has a single car sized verandah on one side, so theoretically we have room for 5 cars undercover! Hehe.
But yes, work on the car in the shed, get stuck with something, jump on forums to ask stupid questions! Yep, sounds about right! Hehe. Linda, Mt Barker is in the Adelaide Hills, on the southern side. You get to it by turning off the freeway exit - Mt Barker has its own exit. Easy to get to from Melbourne - no driving through the city to get to us!!!! Hehe. Mt Barker is more like a large town on the south eastern edge of the metro area... remembering that Adelaide metro area is very narrow. We are on eastern edge, the beach is on the western edge but it would still only take around half an hour to get to the beach... and we are about 20 min drive from the city. Mt Barker has BP Ultimate and KFC, so everyone is happy! Hehe.
