find a stocko low kay Au engine and add any choice of cam (or for that matter a vernier wheel and dial in the stocko) and you'll pick upmore than 10kw.. That would be not only smarter for further mods but would also be the cheaper of the options.

is all the negativity finished now??????????????????????? Did he ask should he do it ? no did he ask your opinion? no he asked what he needed to do the job
if you get the VCT engine complete with the engine harness just drop it in and change the ECU the only other thing is you may need to run the VCT wire from the ECU to the main engine plug if its not there ( but i think it is ) your ECU will need to be trained to the BEM before the car will start

I agree he did want to know how to do it, but to buy a vct engine then adapt into the car seems over kill, there is only 8 flywheel kw's diff between the hp and vct, so about 5-6 rwkw, cetainly not worth the expense of an engine swap. Even if you did, vct's are a pain in the butt to mod, cams etc. I would buy a junker from the wreckers, then get a reconditioned short motor from repco...they need a swap.Usally the repco ones are bored to 1st size over, so as an added bonus you get a 4.1 ltr motor...and there is your extra kw's you want.

But there is nothing wrong with guiding people in more logical directions is there?

I dont think it was negativity, but rather practicality. To be honest I personally wouldnt bother putting a VCT engine in unless I was going to leave it as a stock VCT engine, if I was going to mod I would leave the existing setup, get another HP engine or even a normal one, build it up and put it in, straight fit no worries.

fair call... on the other hand lets just not bother trying to help each other out with cost effective solutions to problems... if you read the whole thread his reasoning behind the conversion was to pick up a measly 10kw... perhaps he didn't know about dialing in the HP cam, perhaps he didn't know that billet grinds are an off the shelf propostion for the HP and not the VCT, and maybe even he didnt know he might still be able to keep his XR head... But then again maybe we should of just let him spend the coin and be disappointed later

billet cams will be available for VCT engines in a couple of months according to crow. took a while but they finally got them right. recomendations are fine but not one person actually answered the initial question they just kept saying don't do it. as he has now stated this is the way he wants to go so we need to support him in this

as I said earlier depending on the damage you can/could re use your head.. That is the only thing that makes it an XR.. THe bottom end is standard across the board.

Dude, for the amount of stuffing around its going to take to get it in there, why not just drop a Windsor in it!! It's still a Tickford motor. Although would be hells more expencive though. Just my 2c
