Default A Lesson Learnt

When installing Vernier Gear, even if not adjusting, still tighten the bolts more then they come in the packet.
... i honestly think its stupid that they don't have them torqued up to the right spec in the packeging, but alas they don't, and that mistake has cost me another head...

vernier gear bolts fell out, gear seperated, cam stopped, crank kept going, valves bent.

so yeah, keep that in mind.

a lifter started ticking maybe 20mins earlier.
we know how prone our cars are to ticking.. thought nothing of it.
then it got worse for about 5 seconds... then it stalls.
all gone :S

so yeah, 2nd head gone.
getting an EF Tickford head tomorrow hopefully.

i imagine this head is in ok condition, its just easier and quicker to have another head to swap straight on. the current EB one was reco'd 15,000km's ago and the valves/rocker gear have taken most of the hit.
i'll keep the current EB one and have 2 new valves put in so i've got a spare

Oh man, that's must hurt. Just spent the time and money getting the vernier gear going only to wreck the entire head. :

Hope the next one goes on easy and without incident.

not your fault Dave.
my fault, hopefully a simple head change will sort it all out.

on a side note, the vernier gear isnt broken, just needs new bolts.
so it'll be reused Lol!

I have found that the washers in the rollermaster vernier gear bend and release tension.I have tightened the crap out of mine.
I would recommend everyone check them.

Damn that sucks... I don't have a vernier gear and now will probably not get one. I worry about my engine enough as it is so last thing I need is something else to worry about. Good luck with it tho John.

A good dose of high temp permanant loctite and FT + 50nm will fix it, I wouldn't be backing away from adjustable timing gears over this issue guys.
