Default Is this decent output for a stock EBII?

As quite a few people already know, the EB's motor has been rebuilt, it has also had a Mandrel bent cat back exhaust from JMM put on it.

It's had a couple of glitches, but we think we've got them all worked out now.

It went on the Dyno at JMM yesterday and the dyno sheet says it has a maximum 118 RW/KW. That sort of threw me, as I wasn't expecting it to put out as much being a stock EBII, or should I have been expecting that much?

Has anyone got any ideas that I don't need to spend heaps of $$ on for more power apart from extractors to get more power out of it?

118rwkw.......a little high.

With a cat back arround 105rwkw is normal. Looks like its reading arround 10-15% high. Wierd...

seems on the high side to me.
did they do a before dyno?
a 400m run will tell more hehe

put it on a DDD (dyno dynamics dyno) and get a score that's comparable to most other DDD dyno readouts... as a general rule JMM's dyno reads spectacularly high compared to most others, I remember the dyno day I went to there were a lot of ppl going argh i've lost 10-15kw... lol..

My EA did 117rwkw on a DDD manual stock motor with extractors, exhaust, and no filter.... then it did the headgasket a week or so later..

yeah from what i've read, the JMM dyno is pretty encouraging, not too mention the dodgy printouts. :P Good result though.

Ok, so there is a Dyno day at Hallam which I've been thinking about going to, I think I may just go now.

So I'm correct that the general concensus is that the dyno is giving readings that are a little high?

Bit of a disappointment.

Oh by the way the exhaust was put on about 3 weeks ago, yesterday was the first time the car has been on a dyno since the motor was rebuilt.

Dyno readings are only comparable to the same dyno, with the same ambient temp, same engine temp, and heaps of other variables. Best way to think of it is as a tool for measuring if a change has made a difference - just like software benchmarks such as 3DMark or PCMark are useful tools to see how much difference a modification that may not be obvious otherwise made to a PC, such as attempting to tweak RAM timings and FSB speed for example...

One thing we do know for sure, it is definately making more power now then it ever did. How much power will vary from dyno to dyno.

Seeing as nobody else has yet suggested any other modifications, I'll give some suggestions.

Extractors, XH snorkle, better air filter (the current stock one is filthy and couldn't be helping), better filterbox to intake hose (not sure of the correct name for that part), and perhaps tuning it to run on premium fuel by advancing the timing a bit would all help it breath better and make more power, as well as helping fuel economy. No, not completely rebuilt. It has a new thermostat in it, and various other little bits and pieces, new sparkies, new leads, cam timing has been advanced slightly, and a few other little things that shouldn't really affect how it goes.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, thought of another one, thermo fans, get rid of the clutch fan and stop the engine from having to spin it all the time.

Funny you should say that, I'm in the dining room and Troy's in the lounge room. :nutsycuck

No it wasn't totally rebuilt, but a lot of bits and pieces from two engines were swapped around until there was an engine that worked. I can't remember everything that was replaced, fixed, swapped etc. but it was a lot of work. It's been fiddled with, re tuned, you name it, Brendan's done it.

The dyno was just a final test for it after finding a few glitches and fixing them.

I have to say, after picking it up today, it is running better than I would have ever expected it to, I have my eye on the speedo constantly, it doesn't like sitting on 100km/h on the freeway, it likes to creep up to 120 km/h++.

I think I'll have to invest in a speed warning device. :

Sounds a little high nikki ;) should be like 105rwkw which is still quite good. ROH rims add 5rwkw lol

Visit the dyno day and see what it gets in comparison to my car lol

that's way to high, go to the chiptorque website on the gold coast. They have probably have the best dyno readings on there site with different mods. They dyno tune heaps of vehicles so it is very accurate.

EL thermo fans are a good cheap mod for a bit of a performance boost as well

Yeah i'll be at Hallam.. I've got a completely different engine and cam to when I last dynoed my car.. and last ran it down the qtr mile so I'm interested to see what its pulling now.

Will give more torque down lower, little more power down lower, maybe, just maybe a few rwkw at the top end, if you are chasing RWKW numbers I wouldnt bother with it, if you want more torque then I would say go for it (or you just want to do it cause you can )

Yeah, that's what I thought, it would be a good one because it's an auto and would make a difference in day-to-day driving and for the 1/4 mile once it gets run there

More torque and power down low is never a bad thing, even if it didn't give any more peak rwkw, if it improved performance low down in the revs, it would be worth it. :
