SECRET speed camera vehicles with no warning signs, point-to-point speed cameras, alcohol ignition interlock devices and new speed traps will be part of Queensland's biggest road safety blitz next year.
Police will use undercover vehicles – in a variety of models, makes, ages and colours, with no advance warning or departure signs at the site – in an all-out bid to lower the state's shocking road toll, which is likely to reach 340 this year. The State Government will reveal details of its new two-year Road Safety Action Plan today, including unprecedented measures aimed at cracking down on speeding and drink driving. Premier Anna Bligh told The Sunday Mail it was clear the present speed and drink-driving messages were not getting through to some motorists. She made no apology for resorting to sneaky, covert tactics to nab leadfoot drivers. "Despite pleas from police, emergency personnel, road safety experts and even victims' families, a dangerous minority continue to ignore the road safety basics," Ms Bligh said. "My message is simple: it's got to stop. These measures are about doing what we can to make that happen." Among the tough new measures to be announced today: • Point-to-point cameras, to catch motorists who slow down before a camera then speed up. • Red-light cameras which also measure the car's speed. • A third of mobile speed camera vehicles to be unmarked and undercover. • A system of alcohol ignition interlock devices, which cost between $2000 and $3000, to be rolled out next year. The Government will finally act on a three-year-old promise to force repeat drink-drivers to fit the alcohol ignition locks to their vehicles. Offenders will be made to pay for the devices themselves, and the car will not start if the driver has been drinking. They are used in Victoria, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and South Australia. "International research shows that re-offences are reduced by 73 per cent when these alcohol interlockers are used," Ms Bligh said. "The bottom line is that means this scheme will save lives." The Premier said the interlockers will be mandatory for offenders convicted of: • Driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or more. • Failing to provide a specimen of breath or blood. • Committing their second drink-driving offence within five years. • Operating a vehicle dangerously while under the influence. About 35 per cent of drink drivers booked in 2008-09 were repeat offenders. Ms Bligh said point-to-point cameras had never been used in Queensland, but were a success overseas. Two cameras, 1km or 2km apart, measure a vehicle's average speed. Ms Bligh said all red-light cameras would be replaced by digital cameras that could also read the car's speed. In most red-light offences, motorists have sped up across the intersection, and will now get at least two tickets. There also will be new sites for red-light cameras. Industry experts predict the digital cameras will produce an extra $80 million a year in revenue. All the new measures were approved at the final Cabinet meeting of the year last week – but the cost of the road safety plan has yet to be worked out. Police Minister Neil Roberts said introducing covert enforcement for speed would be a huge deterrent, as motorists would have no idea where or when they might be caught. That old wreck parked on the side of the road might well be a mobile speed camera vehicle in 2010-11, he said. "Cabinet approved a maximum of 30 per cent of mobile speed camera hours be undertaken using covert speed camera vehicles in a variety of models, makes and colours with no advance warning or departure signs at the camera site," Mr Roberts said. "These reforms will increase the detection of motorists who speed or run red lights by improving the unpredictability and number of hours of enforcement conducted. "You will be more likely than ever to get caught if you are speeding." Police ran a road toll campaign this year, Below 299 in 2009, but a fatality in north Queensland yesterday raised the number of deaths to 315.

defenation of STUPID is to repeat the same mistake twice... Idioticy is to do it 3 times... bligh is an UTTER MORON.
how about putting the money from your speed cams into an education progam and defensive driver training program and watch your road toll drop, mandatory 5-10 year retesting to bring you up to scratch on new road laws and make sure you havent fallen prey to bad habbits.. OHH SORRY that dosent raise money does it... I hate bligh with the power of a thousand suns... the best she could do is vapourise off the face of this earth tommorow.

Would be better to put the money into better roads and testing of drivers there are a lot of bad drivers out there maybe fix our roads. The alcohol testing I have no problem with.
I suppose she has to raise money some how she is selling of rail and ports so there will be no income from that and she will have to get money some how . |

x3 on the ignition locks, the only half decent idea in the list. The rest is just to make up for 3.1% payrise for QLD MP's.... :
I have actually already seen a number of unmarked police speed camera vans. Still can't fool me. |

For some reason this is how it sounded to me...
SECRET revenue camera vehicles with no warning signs, point-to-point revenue cameras, total moron ignition interlock devices and new revenue traps will be part of Nannylands biggest road revenue blitz next year and forever. Bored Police will snooze in undercover vehicles – in a variety of Landcruisers, Patrols, Transits, Mercedes Sprinters, Volkswagen Transporters, Hyundai I-loads, etc, parked on the side of the road like always – in an all-out bid to lower the state's shocking $15 billion revenue shortfall, which is likely to need foolish speeders to top it up till 2085. The State Laughing Stock will reveal details of its new two-year Road Revenue Raising Action Plan today, including unprecedented measures aimed at cracking down on everyday honest people and brainless toolbags. Everybody basicly. Drive a car and and we will be watching you. Pirate Captain Bligh told The Sunday Fail it was clear the present revenue and drink-driving messages were not getting through to some minions. She made no apology for resorting to sneaky, covert tactics to nab middle-income hardworking drivers. "It's all us politicians know how to do". "Despite pleas from police, road revenue experts and even shareholders in revenue camera technology manufacturers, a dangerous majority continue to go about their daily grind without contributing to the road revenue slap in the face," Cpt Bligh said. "My message is simple: it's got to stop. These measures are about doing what we can to make more plebs suffer in the hip pocket." Among the so-called tough new measures to be announced today: • Point-to-point cameras, to catch motorists who slow down before a camera and cause a pile-up of 15 cars behind them. • Red-light cameras which also measure the car's speed so that a further revenue can be extracted. • A third of mobile speed camera vehicles to be unmarked and undercover. Even though they are pretty much unmarked now until you get within snapping range • A system of potential killer ignition interlock devices, which cost between $2000 and $3000, to be rolled out next year. The Government will FINALLY act on a three-year-old promise to force repeat drink-drivers to fit the flaming idiot ignition locks to their vehicles. Offenders will be made to pay for the devices themselves, and the car will not start if the driver has been drinking. This scheme is inspired, these are the types of people that deserve to pay for their negligence. They are used in Victoria, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and South Australia, but they all got the idea from the U.S. "International research shows that re-offences are reduced by 73 per cent when these drongo interlockers are used," Cpt Bligh burped. "The bottom line is that means this scheme will save lives." The Pirate said the interlockers will be mandatory for offenders convicted of: • Driving after 3+ stubbies in a row. Because thats not too much! • Failing to provide a specimen of breath or blood. • Committing their second drink-driving offence within five years. • Operating a vehicle dangerously while munted. About 35 per cent of drink drivers booked in 2008-09 were complete and utter brainless tit-rats. Cpt Bligh said point-to-point cameras had never been used in Nannyland, but were raking it in overseas. Two cameras, 1km or 2km apart, measure a vehicle's average speed. Thats all we're going to tell you. Cpt Bligh said all red-light cameras would be replaced by digital cameras that could also read the car's speed. In most red-light offences, motorists have sped up across the intersection, and will now get at least two tickets. Chu Ching. There also will be new sites for red-light cameras. Wherever there isn't 1 already! Industry experts predict the digital cameras will produce an extra $80 million a year in revenue. <*I didn't edit that 8) All the new measures were approved at the final Cabinet meeting of the year last week – but the cost of the road safety plan has yet to be worked out. Just like any other plan the government rolls out. Just put it on tic. Police Minister Neil Roberts said introducing covert enforcement for speed would be a huge money grab, as motorists would have no idea where or when they might be gouged. That old wreck parked on the side of the road might well be a mobile speed camera vehicle in 2010-11, he said. Might just be a broken down Wicked van too but you'd all better slam on the brakes to 30 km/h below the limit just incase. "Cabinet approved a maximum of 30 per cent of mobile speed camera hours be undertaken using covert speed camera vehicles in a variety of models, makes and colours with no advance warning or departure signs at the camera site," Mr Roberts said. "erm actually we don't use ADVANCE warning signs currently so thats a moot point." "These reforms will increase revenue. "You will be more likely than ever to get caught if you use your vehicles power." Police ran a road toll campaign this year, Below 299 in 2009, but a fatality in north Queensland yesterday raised the number of deaths to 315. Whomever caused that needed to be educated better probably. |

This is BS. Fine do the breathe test immobiliser for repeat offenders, thats ok. But the rest will just force Brisbane from its near standstill current state to a full on grid lock. Mr/Mrs average driver will sit at 50 not wanting to be done doing 61 as they pass parked cars just on the off chance. Guess what!!!! Then they can bring on the congestion charge as well. KAA CHING again.
I hate this, not a week goes by that somewhere Mr/Mrs car owner is bing looked upon as the crap of the universe. Problem is its only going to get worse.

Queensland, beautiful one day, copying Victoria the next.
I for one completely agree to the mone being spent on driver education. However that would get the pollies new office fitouts will it. I serouusly cannot believe how time and time again these idiots think that punishment is better then education.

I'd be happy to do the speed limits on town and suburban roads if the government would just build us a no holds barred auto bahn, but unless that happens FTP. They can't even build a road big enough to support the traffic flow let alone finish a section of roadworks within a decade.
I'm seriously ok if they introduce the firing squad for drink drivers. drink driving is completly unnessary, get a taxi people.

REVENUE RAISING THATS ALL !!!
if our wacked out queensland government was interested in saving lives and not making money , they would save lives end off story mandatory driver training courses , yearly vechicle inspections, just to name a few our wacked out government spent all OUR MONEY on that oil spill in moreton bay recently, without first looking in to the legel obligations of the ship (how much there insurance would cover towards the clean up ect ect ) there was a little short fall , oh only $15+ million and we as queensland citizens have to now wear this BILL but its ok we just keep voting for these legalized criminals, who i might add just gave them selves ANOTHER pay rise how many politions lost money in the GFC ??? NONE OH ALSO all politions after they retire/get voted out get looked after for the rest of their lives and we as australias pay for this im waiting for the government to issue speeding finds from readouts from our GPS its only a matter of time |

Also my aunty has an ignition lock on her car, after her 4th DUI she has to have it in all her cars, what happens is you blow into it, if it detects alcohol, the car wont turn on, if it doesn't the car starts up, from then on, every 5 minutes driving it beeps at you and you have to blow into it again or it completely shuts off the car. (Thats when you lose power steering/brakes and everything else). What she does, is gets her daughter to blow into the unit so she can drive around tanked still. It doesn't work, believe me, she needs to go to jail to smarten the F up. |
