Im applying for a job as an usher/front of house.
And they require this certificate. Funny tho as I heard on the Radio that this particular theatre wont be selling alcohol. Would be handy to have tho I suppose.

the place you are doing it through do they give you the cd to do it in your own time if so

load it on 2 computers use 1 to look at the info you can go forward and backward to find the answer....

the other computer have online doing the actual test then you wont have a problem

good luck and any questions dont hesitate to ask

I know a few people that have done it and passed it easily.

Funny thing is I am licensed to sell alcohol in the Uk. Basically if I ran a bar, the buck stopped with me and it was my name on the trading license. This license has no bearing over here and I would have to do the RSA course. Daft if you ask me!

not really our laws a tougher than what you would have had in the UK

we have to think about the set ups ect that the liqour licencing people do on a reg basis and if you dont know where things like the rsa cert are for every member of staff is then you as the person in charge is responsible and face a fine of around 6grand

you have to be very diligent as to who you serve ie affected by alcohol and those that are under age and or purchasing for under age persons

I have made enemies of people that were friends because i wouldn't sell to them knowing they were buying for their 17 yr old daughter not worth the risk of the 10g fine

if you want to work in the industry here in Au i would recommend that you do the rsa

I think its fantastic you can do it online! I was expecting to sit in a class room for 2 days straight.

This is where I got my info from for the course if any one is interested.

I did mine twice, first time I went in for half a day and completed it, second time I did it online. Very basic and it really only involves things that are common knowledge. I don't need to worry about mine again until August 2012.

I did have to sit in a room for 2 days. :(
Did it through Woolworths, so they paid for it, and then then could rip me out of my office for whatever reason and make me go waste an hour or so in the liquor store, covering for someone else, when I should have been doing my own work...

2 days? Woolworths do it in a 8 hr day now. Great to have a RSA but the more you know etc, the more you'll be doing other ppl's work and covering in other departments...such a pain

There is different levels of RSA in australia
there is 3 different courses just for victoria .

You DONT need a RSA untill you have been employed in that job for 3 mths .
after that You DONT need a RSA UNLESS your the only person serving

This is for as I know of in Victoria only
