Default REAL Australian cars?

The 48-215 was a Chevy.
The XK was a Yank Tank.
The AU was a European water bottle.
SS Commodores wear bow-ties.

Just wondering how many REAL Australian cars have there been.

My thinking as well.

Actually the X series, while 'designed' here used alot of parts shared with US. The shape was American by concept (Suppose all are). The AU was at the time, the most Australian designed and was well known for having the most % of Australian made parts. More so than any C'dore before it and after.

as far as old cars go, i would suggest the p76[/QUOTE]

you know when one thinks about it there is very few all aussi cars at all

the P76 would head the pack as BL had no equal in the British leyland line up so the only thing donated would be the engine, shared with the 3liter Tasman/Kimberly twins which was based on the Austin1800, and the 3lt Austin made in England which used the cab shell of the 1800 with with the engine set north south driving the rear.
so in all respects (except the engine ) this car heads the pack as"all done here"

All the American based manufactures supplied some input to design and engineering and still do, the Aussie teams apply the parent company DNA to the local market hence the VH Valiant while being the first locally designed Chrysler Australia product (still based on what was a US suspension ) still looked like the parent company product.

this trend is shared by GM and Ford.
Consider the EA. Clean sheet design here with carry over rear suspension and an adaption of a US Ford front suspension (I believe )
it still had the US / Europe Ford look about ( Ford Scorpio/Taurus)
in this case though the EA in my opinion was the best balanced in style of most of the Ford product of that time (The Aussie influence y'see)

And every body knows the the Commodore is a part of the GM World car program with local input

and a final comment .For years I was led to believe the the Torana GTR-X
(a prototype two seater sports-car )was a local effort until I read in a magazine called Collectable Automobile (the car version of National Geographic)that the head designer was from the US and was a part of the Corvette design team !!

SIGH...

Giovanni Michelotti designed it (although the joke at the time was one guy did the front, another guy the back) and the two prototypes were built in England.

So all the posters on these forums who believe that the Australian design was modified to fit the 'New Edge' must be wrong then?

Can't really consider the XA when seeing the 1968 Ford Maverick concept from US. I was gutted when I discovered this... love the XA!

I reckon what Bolwell did was pretty special...

This makes for interesting reading, but not sure how the Magna rates a mention.
