Yeah, nice video but I bet you could do the same with an I-6 or Ecoboost 2.0

My friend is about to buy a BF Mk2 XR6 Turbo and he wanted me to test drive it lastnight and tell him what I thought.

It was flash tuned (Xcal) to 10psi and was already as fast as my XR8 but the problem for me was that it was only a blast when I floored it and listened to the turbo spooling up. (very addictive btw)

The rest of the time while cruising round, it just felt like a standard XR6 and that just killed the mood for me.

So in conclusion, the BOSS makes you feel like a boss!

What makes a turbo more practical than a V8? Apart from a slight difference in fuel economy they are exactly the same car. I think when the missus wants something more practical it's SUV or minivan time.

Also seeing as you're after a manual go the V8!!

That car has a bent fin inside the turbo, hence it sounds like infants being thrown into a blender.

Are you buying it for you?

Or for what other people will think of you.

If the latter you cannot win because everyone has different views and even those views can change.

If for you, drive both vehicles, not around the block but a decent drive and see how you feel as they both have a lot of quirks that don't seem to have been mentioned here.

A few to look at:

1) All manual V8s suffer from driveline lash and you will probably be over the clunk clunk clunk in a short time. Auto and T6s suffer from exactly the same problem but it is not so obvious as the autos tend to be a bit mushy and T6s have low compression so there is not much back pressure

2) T6s are terrible at engine braking for the reason mentioned above. You will use more brakes with a T6 than a V8.

3) The V8s are more nose heavy than the T6 and will tend to under steer more easily on slippery surfaces.

4) V8s are more predictable than T6s as the torque is linear and instantaneous whereas T6s can lag or bog.

5) The V8 will use more fuel than the T6 and is less tolerant of lower RON fuels

6) In some states rego will be dearer on the V8 than T6, check yours.

7) T6s HATE stinking hot weather but love the cold, V8s do the same but not as drastically.

Get out there and see it for yourself as most <insert engine here> enthusiasts well tend to maximise the good points and ignore the bad points or their "Precious" when telling you their story.

Try and get a little more coin to get in to FG XR6T, big leap there.

I am really missing my BF XR8, as I am getting around in a BAII XR6T at the moment.

Admittedly my 8 is modded, and the 6T is standard, but the 8 wins.

The 8 goes from down low all the way. The 6T doesn't

Overall experience it is.

I looked at both xr6ts and xr8s in the BA. I bought the V8. The only thing I'd do differently if I was looking to buy again is get the manual because I think it would be more fun than the auto (which I bought).

Good on you Alan. I hope you enjoy your purchase, and don't mind a bit of flak from those who have different tastes and requirements.

Congrats on the purchase, I was in the same position that you were in. Test drove T6 and the V8, the t6 was fast but it didn't to suit me. Then took the V8 out, fell in love straight away, the noise alone had me signing the papers.

It's not a new purchase, I've had it for a while now but thanks. I love the sound of my V8 with the extractors and exhaust and with the lower diff ratio and a couple other mods it goes more than well enough for my mediocre driving skills

They are actually a lot easier to drive fast than a modified xr6t. Mine has spat me off the track on occasion

i was and still am a v8 man, when buying my latest car, i test drove both the fg xr8 and fg xr6t

i ended up buying an fg xr6t, sure i miss the sound but the smile on my face everytime i give it a hit makes up for it, drive both and you will find out which one suits you best

I bought an F6 for something different - the odd burst of speed while giving it a squirt doesn't compensate for the glorious sound track that is a V8 which is always there. The majority of the time my F6 may as well be an XR6.

The lash from the manual box in my BA XR8 was annoying to begin with but it just became background noise and learned to tune it out.

I hate hindsight

Disclaimer: I have no idea who owns this car (do wish it was me though)

Just been in the same position and I went with the XR8 purely because the sound was so much better and to me they just look more menacing with the bonnet bulge.

and either one is plenty fast for the street anyway.

i hope you don't regret it when a XR6T kicks your donkey

it has cost me a few grand to make the GT compete with them but a tuned one still pulls away and that burns me

mine sounds a lot better though...a hell of a lot better
