Hey all

It's come time to get a car alarm, wheres the best place to get one. is it hard is it to DIYS, i havent realy looked at cost yet, iv been told that some places that will do a pacage where they tint the windows and put an alarm in at the same time but don't know where it is, Im in SA if any one knows someone

alarms are usless i say! mr juicy had the nicest xd ive seen in a while, had an alarm and 3 immobolisers, and it still got stolen!

Nothing short of bolting down the axles will stop a professional car thief from flatbedding it away if they want the car that badly. An alarm/immoboliser will keep the junkies and joyriders away though...

Just want to stop people from looking at the sterio or any thing in my car iv had it broken into before and they only grabed the money in the ash tray and my ciggys, i was asking for it as i left my window down by accident while it was infront of my mates house around 9 at night went inside to get him by the time we came out thay had taken it, good thing they didnt get the sterio or my sunnys

Ive got a sub in the boot like most of us probibly have, and im worried someone will take that one time. Ive got an EL and when the car was dads someone broke into the boot and stole all of dads tools, let me tell you its really easy to break into an EL's boot. So thats one reason why id get a car alarm.

i recommend a CarVox Car Alarm from ebay for $130 it has 1.5km range and imobiliser... remote start... 3 stage shock sensor... remote shutdown if someone takes off with it... and plenty of other ИИИИ that i cant be bothered to name... saved my brothers car the day after i installed it... he left the drivers window down when he went into a corner shop.... soon as he got in it started going off and his keypad was vibrating and beeping he ran out and some guy was driving off down the street... they tryed to get the headdeck but soon as the alarm went off they took off real fast.

Have a look in the sales yard there was a guy not long ago selling one for $80 and retail it was worth god knows how much!!

exactly! you CANT stop a pro from taking it most of the time but all you can do is slow them down. Alarms and Immobs are there to stop as you say slection, junkies, joyriders, 15yr old NNNN heads who think its cool to take your CD's and car audio :P

First mod to any car should be an alarm.
More often than not an alarm will prevent your car from being stolen, Mrjucy was a once off!
The more you pay for an alarm the more likely the car will not be stolen.
There are two types of thief, a pro will get past anything to get a rare car (ie Mrjucy) however most road cars only need to be protected by the low budget theif and they can't get past goot alarms.
Without an alarm you might as well leave the car running!

A house and car alarm are an essential item for upgrading security. If you would like to deter car thieves an alarm is an excellent addition. It depends on what level of security you want on how much you pay.

It is unfortunate that some very expensive cars do get stolen .Generally the people who defeat a top level alarm are professional car thieves. It is likely that their brazeness may be accompanied by guns and knives.So even with the alarm going your life is worth more.
Most thieves however would run from a car alarm which screams.Too much attention could lead to an arrest.

do most alarms work with the smartlock system? is it posible to have it hooked up to the central locking with no dramas??

My mates is hooked up to his central locking not sure how he did it he did it himself ill find out for ya!!

I installed central locking on the old EA.

It was a kit I bought from JayCar.

Cost about $60 and had a great range.

There should be three wires that go through the door for the central locking (if memory serves), there will be 12volts on one of the wires, and no volts on the other two. If you ground the hot wire (12v wire) the door will unlock (if it is locked) or lock (if it is unlocked), I installed 2 relays with the 12v hot wires on one side of the contacts, and grounded the other side.

The remote locking unit in the kit had heaps of wires, I only needed 2, one pulsed 12v when the lock button was pressed and the other pulsed 12v when the unlock button was pressed.

They were wired to their respective relays across the coil to ground and viola central locking.

As you all probably know the smartlock keypads aren't that reliable, and I'm sure they would have a similar setup to the old EA.

The wires and relays sat behind the drivers side kick panel, and the remote control box sat just behind where the trip computer would be.
