couldn't really stand the guy in more recent times, but what an absolute legend of the game of cricket. Wow, just couldn't believe the news I was reading when I woke up today.

Warnie
Grew up like many kids in my generation, idolising him. Playing cricket, trying to replicate his skill, to no avail.
Gone way too soon.
Only a few weeks ago, listening to him commentate the T20 international series here.

I have a similar feeling to when I heard the news of Steve Irwin dying. No offense to Irwin. His legacy is far superior to Warne. It's just both were kind of larger than life characters and died way too early.

There was a bit that stood out to me while watching one of the ashes games i think it was....he was giving his typical honest assessment of things and talking about how his life has been played it for all to see and how he accepts this but doesnt like when it affects his family life / kids...he was saying he got "papped" sitting out on his balcony with his fat guts hanging out, no one wants to see that, etc.
Made me laugh but I really liked hearing him talk like that.
That little piece is what i first thought of after hearing about his death (its ridiculous I am saying that)

I woke up about 6am this morning and thought I'd check out the news, then I saw he'd turned the toes up. I was shocked then and it's still sinking in.

A larger than life Aussie legend that I'd love to have a beer with. RIP the spin king.

way way too young RIP. whether you loved or hated him he made a massive contribution to the game of cricket and his stature in the game will never be anything other than immense. may his family and friends and those of Rod Marsh find the strength to get through the next period. just a thought, at least now Rod Marsh can keep to the greatest leg spinner of all time now. Now THAT could of been great viewing

Shane Warne will be remembered for many things and many achievements during his lifetime.

But for me it comes down to a few things.

That first ball, absolutely amazing, followed by the look on Gatting's face. It signaled the start of many fantastic things to come.

And his love and enjoyment of life and anything he seemed to do. Sitting down and watching anything he did you could feel that love and enjoyment coming through. Sit down and listen to an interview or a chat, or even his commentating, you were always in for a treat. He was just fun to watch and listen to. Really enjoyable.

Sad to see him taken too early. He will be missed.

Unfortunately some groups of the anti-vax movement have seized on this and Warne's heart attack and placed the blame entirely on the fact he was vaccinated.

I watching anti-vax friends post all over their FB page and repost from other sites. Still not a word of sympathy to his family though.

He was caught taking bribes, banned for taking a prohibited substance that masks steroids and also had an unofficial little warning....

Not a role model for my kids unfortunately.

Don't think he took the bribe?

Not a perfect role model by any means, but was a genuine person with good intentions. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they talk. Despite his talent and dominance on field, he never acted like a **** either.

Oh...and he was Victorian

He has shared everything he has done and made a great deal of it available to us all. He has definitely helped a great deal of us with no personal gains to himself.

Warnie for cricket you were a breath of fresh air and another great piece in the Aussie dominance through those times.......
Exciting to watch those Tests will never forget them.
Brilliant, those pommy pitchs suited you perfectly and didn't you exploit that.
RIP up there mate - catch up with many fellow cricketers who would enjoy the banter and yarns......
Thanks for the memories give a hug to Marshy.

His Death has been completely overshadowed by Shane Warnes death. & Isn't getting the Accolades I Think he deserves.. (In My Opinion) Marshy was a far better Bloke than Shane Warne...!!

After watching the state funeral for Warnie and all the tributes from all over the world, from people of all walks of life and the peoples whose lives he touched, perhaps a posthumous Knighthood is in order.
If that conceited tosser Lewis Hamilton can get one, surely Shane Warne is most deserving.

It still ****es me off that Richie Benaud never got one. So I'd doubt Warnie will get one either......

Yeah nah. Warnie was a bogan and that's why he was loved so much in my opinion. No knighthood needed, he is the spin king.

I watched the memorial last night and was reminded of what an incredible life he packed into the years he had. We as fans lost a legend but these kids lost their dad and thought they handled themselves perfectly given the fact that not many share their dad with so many people.

My favourite story was Merv Hughes talking about Warnie taking a fan for a ride in his Ferrari
