Default Will this work...?

My keypad for the Fairmont is dieing slowly. I dont mind spending the $18 to replace battery but i was just curious, would the Four button keypad work in a series I?

I have the same keyless entry pad as my sisters EL Fairmont Ghia and my mums AUII xr6 has the four button pad and so does my mates xr6. Mums car has an alarm and my mates doesnt.

My remote:

Would the pads be interchangable so i can have a sperate button for lock and unlock?

We have a spare 4 button remote and dont want to play with it incase im wrong. I am pretty sure the series I's have the different remote for a reason so it wont work but just thought i would ask.

Cheers, Matt.
