Thumbs up 2010 Sh*tbox rally

Finally, a motorsport event that I can compete in on equal terms with my fellow man (and have a remote chance of winning):

Before the mod squad gets uptight about the use of the 's' word, this is the name of the rally, and it is for raising money for cancer treatment and is supported by the Cancer Council of Australia. So it's a serious event, not a ****take. The only thing you should get annoyed about is that places are all filled for this year, and that you'll have to wait until next year to compete. Sad face.

In fact, this seems similar to the American 24 Heurs De Lemons except this is in the bush.

This rally is for those that want to have an adventure, that crave something different, something memorable, but most importantly, it’s for those who want to raise much needed money for charity.

Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it be parents, family, close friends, people we know or ourselves that have battled or are battling cancer, this all too common and the horrid disease has touched us all. We not only want to raise awareness and money for the Cancer Council, but we want to be able to offer support and a friendly ear to those that have suffered or are suffering.

This event is officially endorsed and supported by the Cancer Council including their state branches of NSW, SA and NT, the states that we will be travelling through for the 2010 event.
How does it work

Teams need to raise a minimum of $3,000 to participate in the rally, so if there’s two of you only $1,500 each.

This amount breaks down as $1,000 for the car, $500 for fuel (anything over will be up to you which will massively depend on how ******** your car is, what engine size you go for and how much you take the ‘rally’ aspect of the journey to heart) and the remaining $1,500 for charity.

We also require a registration fee of $150 per person. We do not use this registration fee to make money from you; this is purely to cover costs to add to the rally experience.

Donations are gathered through www.everydayhero.com.au/shitboxrally. Everyday Hero support fundraisers and charities alike by offering a platform to facilitate donations and team building. When you are signed up to ************** Rally we will ask you to register your team on the Everyday Hero website and from there you can start fundraising.

Accommodation

This trip is not about creature comforts. This is a challenge, it will be dirty, dusty and tough. But it’s going to be an amazing experience and something that you will remember forever. We will be camping all but the last location. Therefore you will need to bring your own camping equipment.

You have to pay for all of your own accommodation costs, which will be minor except for the final hotel, but this will not be over the top.

The final 2 nights we will stay in the Alice Springs Resort. We have secured discounted rates for the participants and we will provide you with the registration form once you have signed up. The Alice Springs Resort is the only hotel in town that has a swim up bar that we can park ourselves at all day Saturday and unwind.
Entertainment

OK – we are going to travel a little over 3,400 kms, so to ensure you don’t get incredibly bored we have come up with a few things to keep you entertained on the way. These include parties, challenges, the outback and trying to repair your ******** box with some gaffer tape.
