Twilight for SsangYong
Stephen Ottley February 14, 2011 - 5:15PM SsangYong is hoping vampires can bring its brand back from the dead. The struggling South Korean brand is trying to cash in on the popular vampire themed books and films including Twilight with the marketing campaign for its new Korando C compact SUV. “Our print ads for Korando have a vampire theme leveraging the enormous popularity of the genre in the 25-40 year age group, the vampire cult having been estimated to have generated $7 billion across the global economy in 2010,” said Steve Thomas, SsangYong Australia’s national sales and marketing manager at the Korando launch. The ads including taglines such as “Make sure you're home before dawn” and “Killer Looks” with digitally added vampire fangs on the image of the Korando. The company is targeting the 25-39 year old age group with its latest car as it attempts to build its brand image with a new customer base.
