Default Ford production cut by 20% as of next month?

I just heard on the news Ford is Cutting Falcon and Territory Production by 20% offering voluntary redundancy packages, this can't be good for the industry.

Yeah, hopefully this stops the slide and they can run in the black building lower numbers.
Hopefully the grant Ford got from the government to design & build LHD cars will help them find an export market.

The whole industry is going down the drain. Of the local four, only Toyota have a positive outlook as their sales are increasing since the introduction of the new 4 cylinder Camry.

Actually I am surprised that Ford has made the decision to cut production now before gauging the public's reaction to the BFII model. Three reasons which could work in the BFIIs favour are:

- it is more economical then the superceded BF model
- it is more economical then the new VE Commodore
- the price of crude oil/petrol has fallen 20% in the last two months - read this article

I am curious to see how VE vs BFII sell.
