Default AFTERMARKET Steering Wheel Replacement - AU FORTE SERIES 1

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is anyway I cant change the AU steering wheel to an aftermarket one with a boss kit???

Apparently to do this you need a special tool?

And I know it illegal because of airbags etc, just wanting to know if it can be done...

Thx

there is a good range of aftermarket wheels for the AU that fit the airbags etc and are legal they use the same frame as the factory wheel and are a bolt on thing with no boss kit needed even the steering wheel buttons for stereo and cruise control just bolt straight on. I have a black and blue Momo on mine with matching Tbar and it look awesome

No it can't be done legally. You can get nice ones that go with the airbags. Here's one in an EL - different car, but same steering wheel etc:

i'm pretty sure the shaft has the same number of splines as early e series cars, how many that is i don't know, but i have seen a couple of pics of au ones fitted to ea/na models.

so to answer your question, it more than likely is possible, but unless you plan on using it as a race car, don't even consider driving it on the road with no airbag

No, it doesn't. The e series cars have splines (EA to ED), but from EF to BF (yes, they're all the same shaft), they have a "square" shaft, with the corners cut off. Any AU wheel fitted to an earlier car requires a new steering column/shaft to be fitted as well. Ask MADNC_8; he has done that mod to his car, by fitting an EF shaft, IIRC.
