Default purchasing AU XLS ute

Hi guys
I'm looking at purchasing an AU XLS ute
134000 ks, dual fuel 9 months rego and rwc included
tuff lid tinted windows and lukey sports exhaust
i havent inspected yet but from photos it looks real clean with only minor paint damage
he was asking 10500 but i said my budget is 9500 and he will take that

first off, do you think that is a good deal? as far as i can tell it seems like a reasonable price
second, what do i need to look for when inspecting? I've never owned a falcon so anything that comes to mind would be really helpful

Thanks

*edit* btw i'm using my brothers account, hence the XH sig

i have a series II XLS ute, i love it! had it for 4 years and have put a battery in it and 4 new dampers and that's it. new tyres this week will hurt but it has been reliable and very easy to get along with.
not much goes wrong with them, there is a common problem thread that will give you ideas on what to look for but really, considering how many au's are on the road they are very good.
i'm not sure what the going rate for one of these is but it seems like a good price to me, mine has similar klms and i value mine at more than that! (but then, who doesn't?)
if you buy it make sure you do some basic maintenance for peace of mind, flush the coolant, change the oil and all filters, flush the brake fluid and change the serpentine belt. easy to do yourself, maybe $200 in genuine parts and you should be sweet for a while.
good luck,
paul.

Is it a Series 1/2/3????

There are many little things that have been known to be issues with the AUs ... some people get them ... others don't.

There is a good link here showing the Common Issues owners come across though with known fixes for them as well.

If it's an auto ... get it checked out as well ... and an auxilliary transmission cooler is cheap insurance as well.

The alloy radiators are prone to cracking and mixing with trans fluid (as they have a built-in trans cooler inside them) ... sometimes it is worth replacing just for piece of mind as well.

Also if you encounter any LPG issues ... there's a very informative LPG section in here as well ... with some members actually LPG installer/mechanics to help you as well.

There's also a lot of how-to's for modification as well ... and a lot of aftermarket support as well to make your ute look/go better.

yeah mate i have a 2001 XLS Marlin seriesII. i haven't had a problem with it since i bought it. i would definately recommend it and by the sounds of thing it sounds like you got a good deal. those tough lids arent cheap, the kays arent too bad. plus dual fuel and he's only askin 9500. I was looking around the net for about 2 months before i got my ute and that would be at least 2 maybe 3 grand cheaper than ones i saw privately. If you do end up havin a look and your exterior is in good cond and she runs like a dream then get on it mate. The AU's are great and like Mechan1k said the mods for AU's are endless. Your only problem will be you wont know which mod you want first
