Default random drug testing to be introuced to QLD roads

This is already in effect in other states, just wondering how it works?

From what I saw on the news/ads, its a saliva test. They give you what looks like a plastic scraper thing, and you scrape your tongue. I dont know if the results are on the scraper or something else.

should get loads of revenue up in Qld thru drug testing ....... having lived there for 15 years I can attest to the place being full of drug F@cked brain dead commonwhore drivers ..... lmfao!

On a serious note ...... years of employment in Theatre and Emergency have shown me it is all far too common and makes drink drivers look like a rarity. Unfortunately, we know there are still far too many drink drivers ......... so just how many are really out there all geared up and ready to fly?

I agree..nail the bastards. There are so many pharmaceutically challenged drivers on the road it's scary.

i agree wholeheartedly!! i hope they also test the elderly who are often doped up on prescription drugs with the added impairments of poor eyesight, hearing and reactions. and no, i have nothing against pensioners staying independent, as long as they're able.

Agree here too, but it needs to be able to pick up all drugs not just a select few, i think this is more widespread than drink driving and catch alot of people out.

Ditto, as long as the detection systems are up to scratch.

There were cases in Victoria where the tests were bringing up false positivies.

I was tested about 18 months ago while I was driving a B-double petrol tanker. The copper that singled me out of the group of trucks was an absolute ****head, and we exchanged a few choice words during the test. The two fellas that conducted the test were pretty cool and I think that we all had a few laughs at their boss’s expense.

From memory, what they had were two sealed containers. The first one contained a small plastic strip with two small square absorbent pads on the end. They instruct you to scrape the back of your tongue and then they break the second container open and place the end of the plastic strip inside, seal it up and shake it for a few seconds.

After about five minutes, if the liquid doesn’t change colour, they let you go.

I've never driven on public roads while under the influance of anything, but on ocasions I've had a smoke and I'm just wondering if I ever was to have a smoke again, when is it safe to drive afterwards? If the effects have passed does that put you in the clear? or is the a period of time after the effects have passed that its demd safe to drive?

I don’t know much about drugs as they’re not really my thing, however, I think that it’s THC that stays in the blood stream for around 90 days after you smoke. That’s one of the things that the tests uncover.

Cheers

Doesn't matter whats in you're blood, mouth swab tests for drugs only indicate if someone has been ingesting or inhaling drugs in the last few hours i think. It won't pick up anything you've injected into yourself either.

I think.

I used to get saliva tested all the time in the mining industry amd THC was picked up for the previous 12 hrs. However i saw 1 guy have a smoke 1hr before getting tested and still passed. Urine testing i think it can be around 6 wks if they are a heavy smoker.

How many? What percentage? How can you tell?

You cant say that as there are no statistics ( other than blood tests after an accident ) to support it.

There are " probably " many drug drivers out there.

When you actually watch someone shoot up in a car in the middle of the day and then drive off, you have to think that it is no longer a minority undertaking such actions.

South east QLD? Try all of QLD. I've lived in all areas of QLD and there are a lot of drug drivers everywhere from up north to out west. I lived in a town out west with a population of less the 2000, were I worked there were around 30 people employed who were constantly bombed and driving around. I think people driving on speed is the worst, they are extremely erratic

A quick google will pull up studies on causative factors in traffic accidents.
Medications are certainly a factor.

How do you get majority from someone, one being the discription off how many people you saw shooting up....

Be real mate. Drugs are everywere and in every state... D!(khead scum and losers partake such stupid activities... The majority off road users are straight and cautious, altho they may not be good drivers, it does not mean thay are drug abusers....

I like this new law. But only hope there test are more harsh and can detect drug use for a period that long exceeds the effect off the drug taken...

Yes Woodridge is bad. But you only have to look at the filth that live there to see why.

I an understand the need for drug testing - Speed - Pills - Weed - But speaking from experience i never had problem smoking and driving - Before getting my license i used to smoke a little bit - When going to party's and being unable to drink naturally i started to smoke more - When you smoke everyday weed doesn't effect you the same - I was a better driver because i was paranoid of being pulled over -

I havent smoked in over a year tho -
