Two weekends back I poped the bonnet of the XR and noticed some green oily stuff in the left hand rear of the engin bay. I guessed it was the die that they put in the aircon system so I went to an aircon guy I know who quickly confirmed by prognosis. $278 dollars from Ford for the leaky bit of aluminium pipe(rip off) and $100 to fit and regas i am off and running again. While I was watching the aircon guy do his stuff I saw he was using an air ratchet. I thought how easy it made his job. Then last weekend I helped a mate build some shelves and he had one as well. Guess what I am buying this weekend. Anyone know any traps I need to look for when buying one ?

you can also now get a battery powered rattle gun that might be worth looking at. my mechanic had one till the apprentice droped it from a great height . he loved it and is getting another soon

Make sure you get the right Lubrication Oil and use it often. You can get Pneanumatic screw drivers and rattles guns for all sorts of things, they are brilliant.

I have an air compressor and rattle gun i bought to do the brakes but didn't bother to see if it would fit in the space. I stuffed around with it for a few minutes to hear the cool noise and it's just been sitting in the garage since.

When i saw the aircon guy get into this really akward space and squeese the trigger and out popped the bolt I thought wow. If I were to do that at home it would have taken 15 minutes and a lot of swearing. Then he put it back and it took all of 3 seconds. Then when I was helping my mate build the shelves I recon it took about 1/3 of the time because if the air rachet. Supercheap have a compressor and hose for $129 at the moment so I might check that out this weekend. 1/4 drive rachets are $40. thats what my mate had and it seemed ok.

I am going to get a compressor, 10 Meter hose, 1/4 drive ratchet and a screwdriver. All up less than $250. Bargain.

They're brilliant little tools, but a little advice when you put the nuts on always turn it with your finger for the first 3-4 turns otherwise you have stripped bolts all over your car.

a very handy tool but a bit noisier than a rattle gun i think, and will get places a rattle gun wont but doesnt have the torque of a rattle gun.

Got the compressor from Kmart $96. 15 M hose in retractable drum $79 from bunnings. Ratchet 3/8 and 1/2 rattle gun from supercheap for $40 and $69. A pressure gauge for $19 from bunnings and an air kit for $35 with lots of fittings from supercheap. All up and running and I used it to change the thermastat cover gasket. Its works like a dream.
