Hi guys
does any one know how to remove and replace the electric aerial on a series one Fairmont sedan do you have to remove the mud guard or is there a way round it thanks JOHN |

i *THINK* you remove the plastic splash guard thing around tyre and you can access it from under there.

you remove the plastic inner gaurd and unplug it from the kick pannel just above the ECU

Can any power antenna be used (aftermarket ones specific for AUs) ... or does it need to be from Ford themselves????

I'm pretty sure an after market one will fit. Just take the old one to the store with you and compare the connector. Someone on here will definately know though.

Best thing I ever did when it comes to auto antenna's is get rid of them. Auto antenna's are only good for a couple of years and they break. Replace it with a standard antenna (about $30 from supercheap and they last forever) compare this to about $180 for an aftermarket one that will only last 3 years max.

I replaced my standard antenna with an electric one, and on my first trip away with it, it got hit by a bird and bent it. I talked to my brother about it and he said you can by replacement shafts and they only cost $30.

You know what we used to do with electric antenna's on the cabs? Unplug them!
We always just ran the aerials with the two thickest parts of the shaft up, the other little flimsy ones inside. Hardly ever had any troubles.

aerpro make 2 units one to replace a factory one and one for where there was not a factory fitted unit . the wiring and electronics are different

Cool ... good information here.
Mine just stays up all of the time ... has been for a while (even after I turn ACC off). I just haven't bothered looking at mine ... it's either a dead aerial ... or a connection has come loose.
