My 14 year old son has just brought himself a 1972 Escort Panel van. He is wanting to repower the van with a 2.3 v6 he was given. Im just interested to know how difficult (or easy) this may be, as I will have to do majority of the work. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

This is an Australian forum, 99.99% of people would not know that the 2.3 Cologne V6 ever existed let alone what they are like. Also you need to post in the Escort/Capri section. To answer your question from my limited knowledge (I do own a Mk 3 Capri 2.8i so I know a bit about the German V6s) I would not bother as that engine has no torque. You would be better of hotting up a good Pinto 2 litre and that would be a straight bolt in. Post this on the Escort page and try to get the advice of "whooligan". He is the Escort guru. Steve |

Agree, Give the V6 to somebody else and get a 2 litre in there, great little engine, lighter, and loads more parts available for it. Cheers. |

Where abouts are you? As your son may not be able to drive the car if you do it, as it would be too modified for a P plater.

Well, I wouldn't call myself a guru, but I'm going to go against the flow and say go for it.
The beauty of the Escort van, is their lack of weight. They weigh less than a coupe, so whatever you put in it its probably going to out-strip you bog-standard 1100/1300. I guessing you're posting from NZ as we never got any 2.3lt colognes in Australia, so if you can still get bits for it, I think you should give it a go....Might have a few probablems with the sump, I'm guessing. Personally, I'd love to stick a 2.0lt V4 in a mk 1 van. Sure the pinto would cream it for performance, but just have that V-shaped engine rumble and something a little different under the bonnet would be great. |
