Does the EFII Fairmont Ghia come with the Tickford Suspension that was on the XR's of the same model? If not, does anyone know what the part No. is and how much it would cost to get it fitted by ford??
Cheers, Dave

i dont think that is correct johno only ghias that were optioned with the xr rims got the tickford suspension.... another words if u optioned a sports pack or whatever they called it u got the tickford suspension you will find that most of the ghias out there arent optioned with the wheels and suspension. Ghias came out with with the usual jacked up suspension dont know the exact details but definatly not tickford.

Dont bother going to Ford for the stuff. You cant buy the EF Tickford suspension anymore (94DT parts) only the EL suspension (96DT). While its better, its bloody expensive. $220 each rear shock and $370 for each front strut. This is plus springs. Ford did release a "Tickford Suspension Kit" which was everything in a box, it was around $800. Was for fitting as a replacement suspension. Some dealers might have some left. That will be your cheapest way of getting any Tickford suspension into your car. |

Ok, thanks guys, the car didnt come with the tickford 16" wheels i know that for sure, but it was alot lower than the EL Fairmont we had. (Lined them up side by side on flat road.) The reason I am going for the Tickford package as opposed to aftermarket stuff like whitelines is for insurance reasons. NRMA are currently being.... difficult and not insuring the car because of the 17" AMG rims i have on it. They are complaining about the offset in that it doesnt meet the originals offset. On that note does anyone know the offset of the standard EFII 15" rims as fitted to the Ghia?
Dave

Tickford suspension will drop your car 25 to 30mm from standard height. If you had say the equivalent of King Low's in your car, its more 30mm. Super lows is another 30mm off that. What colour are the springs, if you can still see. If they are yellow, they are typically King Springs, probably the most popular aftermarket spring.
I cant see how they would be complaining about the offset. I'm guessing its more the rim size. That it is 1" larger diametre, and probably wider, than the largest available factory wheel. They generally only insure whatever is written on your tyre placard, and not much else. Most insurance companies will let you get away with Tickford suspension, or King Lows, as they are about the same height. 30mm off stock. Every insurance company I spoke to about my car (factory tickford suspension) would only allow the mods if I was over 25, which I am. Otherwise, it was an instant "NO". |

I just had a look under the car and it does not have yellow springs... doubt they have faded that bad, so i guess it doesnt have the suspension. Im 18 and my dad has had the car since new and only just given it to me. The car is insured under my dad however I am on the list of allowable drivers. The wheel size is 17" x 7.5" vs the stock 15" x 6.5" which is within the NRMAs allowable upgrade size. They came back with a response about the offset being incorrect for that model car and my dad had to ring 4 wheel and tyre fitting places, aswell as ford melboune to show that the offset that those wheels had 10 I believe was allowable for that car.
After dad did all that research and ringing around, NRMA just came back and basically said your insurance is void altogether, with no given reason. Obviously they have no idea what they are talking about and unless the wheels are totally stock they dont want anything to do with you. I've still got the stock wheels so they are going to be bolted on and the AMGs sold. Quite disappointed in NRMA to say the least. Dave

I pretty sure you can pickup a xr6 suspension pack from pedders. Just 30mm lower springs, and sports shocks. Not sure of cost, but would be a lot less than Ford. I have lowered my EL with pedders, I called racv when i was getting it and aslong as its within the specs no problem. Your insurance company should be able to fax or mail you out their policy on suspension modification.
