Could anyone who knows let me know if you can fit a 2 Lt Escort 4 speed gearbox to 1.6 Lt Motor all MK2? And if you can what if any modifications need to be made?
Also I am looking for a 1.6 Lt MK2 4 speed gearbox if anybody needs to get rid of one. I live in Northern Victoria. Thanks |

I have two spare Mk2 1600 gearboxes and motors, if you can't get anything local I'm in Whyalla SA but no problems sorting freight, just adds cost but if you get stuck just yell

Yeah it sure will as all bellhousings are the same.. the only difference is make sure when you look inside the bellhousing where the
clutch fork is, there will be a little allen key bolt. Ensure that if there is a little rectangle spacer that you remove it. This spacer is only used for the 2 litre. You will need to fit a shorter allen key bolt or grind down the one you pull out. This bolt just holds the fork in place. If you leave the spacer in the fork will jam hard against the back of the fork opening and you wont get the right clutch throw. Hope this helps. Blue. |

Thanks to all you guys that replied. I am an old fart new to online forums so apologies for not responding earlier. I have actually repaired the existing 1600 gearbox (so don't need one for now) it was a sheared selector lever on the rail. Pretty simple fix in the end but I am rapt because I have not got a mechanical bone in my body. Anyway the problem with the 2 L box was exactly as Mk1Bluey described. Thanks Mk1Bluey. Next project will be to put the 2 L box back into a Mk 2 Ghia that someone converted to an auto. God knows what I am going to come up against with that.
