Both rear wheels moving the same direction? Not just the diff doing its thing?

Are linkages correct - is the gearbox actually going into gear?

Is the tail shaft turning while you turn the wheels? If it is then I would lean towards an issue with gear selection or maybe something not quite right in the box (you did mention it was rebuilt).

Hang on, when you say the wheels are turning when the car is in gear, I assume you mean with the engine off?

I assumed you meant that the rear is jacked off the ground, motor off, put it in gear and you can still turn a rear wheel, in this case the opposite wheel will turn in the opposite direction, thats what should happen. (unless you have a locker or a real tight lsd, in this case you wouldn't be able to turn it)

You need to secure one wheel and then see if you can turn the other, I bet you won't be able to and thats fine.

Sounds like some of the other replies are assuming you have the engine running.

All the best with it.

Cheers

hi Dennis

no mate the motor is not running at all .it still not all complete if you go to my projects in the ford forums go to ford capri wogboy and you will see the stage that the car is up to ...
but i think the best way is to finish the car put it back on its wheels put it in gear and see if i can roll it forward..it realy should be locked up cause its in gear...true

then i can put my hand break on for more scureity as per normal.......

cause what i was trying to say was if your handbreak was not working at all well at least you have gears to hold the car in one spot..true

thats all iam trying to get to .but i hope your right dennis .....ill start praying now..........
