Default Traffic Lights or Roundabouts

What do you prefer... Traffic Lights or
Roundabouts
Personally I find roundabouts good for keeping the flow but theres ALOT of dip$hits that dont actually know how to use one.
Traffic lights I find $uck, I always seem to get the red light , just my luck & you always find some idiot running a red.
Go Figure

I know of a roundabout with traffic lights... but since i can only vote for one I'd say traffic lights. Could you imagine the chaos our road would be in if every set of lights were replaced by roundabouts.

Here we go.

Im a civil engineering student, hoping to specialise in Traffic and transport.

From what ive cover so far, both have there benefits and drawbacks. for small roads, roundabouts allow better flow and cause little to no delay. On the downside, padestrians are at a disadvantage, due to no right of way going to them.

Light on the other hand, are offer all the benefits of round abouts, but also provide for padestrians. In actual fact, traffic lights do not slow traffic flow down, the actually increase it. Im not goin to go into it, simply becasue it is based of mathematical equations dependant on variables (eg, amount of lanes, lane width, critical flow, etc)
and is to complex. on the downside, lights can breakdown and suffer from power outages.

So, from this, i prefer lights. Better for traffic and padestrians.

lights for draging up to speed limit
roundabouts for making the passenger grip his/her nails thru the seat trim

Lights for a quick drag to the limit.
Roundabouts for some LSD action, proudly brought to you by Melbourne's weather.

i should set myself up at this roundabout (actually, i will tomorrow; i have nothing better to do) with a camera and snap all the morons who turn right using the left lane. EVERY time i am on this roundabout near my house they do it, and they cut half into my lane (im usually on the inside) too which is a thing that REALLY ****es me off when it comes to roundabouts; a lot of people think they can freely use both lanes. having said that, i probably prefer traffic lights, as all the ones around me are red for about 3 minutes and i know the rotation now so i put it in park and just sit back and wait.

I hate roundabouts. Well no.. I hate the stupid rules the NSW RTA applies to them. Why do you have to signal left half way through the thing if you're going straight?

I prefer roundabouts ..... but them the nearest lights are about 100k's from here :p ...... actually the nearest roundabout is as well .........

If we could only educate people how to ue them properly we would all be a lot better off ;)

Heres a fact.
More people are killed at traffic lights than anywhere else..
Why you ask?
Because we seem to have gotten into this robot world where green is go, but doesnt neccessarily mean its clear to do so.

Roundabouts, especially when there is a road with a row of several of them, much more fun.

so true...

there is a set of lights exiting out our area on to the main hwy. anyways one early saturday morning (on the way to AAMI driving course) i was sitting there, it went green, for some reason i just sat there, next thing this b double truck went through the red light way over the speed limit. so if i did go when it went green i wouldn't be here typing this message.

Traffic lights guarantee a break in the flow of traffic (providing they work).
Roundabouts for small roads.

There's a bloody messy roundabout East of Adelaide (i actually think it's fine) but with 5 or 6 roads going on to it and 2 lanes wide there's all kinds of carnage there, Ive only driven through it half a dozen times and have seen some idiot nearly get t-boned for not giving way to the right.

trafficlights as i'm always caught next to a car that uses both lanes to go around a roundabout and they always push me off to the outside or make me slam on the anchors if im on the inside lane while they use both lanes and cut me off

if its late and NO-ONE is near me I dont mind a bit of round-about straight lining. Lights can be frustrating ,espcially without an LSD.

But seriously, round-abouts are just as bad as lights. I used to live in an area with alot of old people and they are dead set hopeless. They never look, barely indicated, and if they do fluke getting through one they do it at a snails pace.

And then there are all the dumbass rules with round-abouts, like signaling to turn off (wtf!..applicable in 1% of round-abouts).

Go the roundabouts. Traffic lights have their place - obviously a major road crossing a smaller road would be shitful for a roundabout so traffic lights are needed to equalise flow.

My fav roundabout? Britannia of course:

Apparantley 10,000 motorists avoid it every day!!!!! WTF? Give way to your right and anyone who is already on there.... not that hard is it?

Without a doubt I would have to say traffic lights, simply because of the fact that half of the drivers on the roads don't know how to use a roundabout properly!

If everyone knew how to enter them properly I would be all for them.

noosa has about 80 roundabouts alone, i prefer them actually because you either can go straight though them or only have to wait for at most 10seconds to get on. though as others say alot of people dont know how to use them, like going all the way around in the outside lane. i dont see that very often though

to signal that you're leaving the roundabout. IMO people can bitch about doing a "needless" thing, however i think ANYTHING you can do to let people know where your next move is going is a plus.

I prefer large roundabouts... the larger ones tend to give the less congested traffic an opportunity to negotiate the intersection.

I hate traffic lights as they tend to congest traffic. Even worse are the pedestrian lights... I know, it's not as economical for councils to develop a pedestrian overramp or underpass.
