Interesting to find out that owners of VE V6's are experiencing lots of timing chain issues that is identified by a logged fault in the computer system, strange how all this has been kept mighty quiet yet people like Herald-Sun motoring writers just get their big thrills out of constantly reporting any fault in a Ford product, ah yes, good old favouritism again!

Because of the direct injection, and the injectors being exposed to combustion temps, I know of a few VE's v6's that have already had the heads off within first 6 months. I apologise if this is already common knowledge. I don't keep up with the Generals product much.

Havnt heard of any issue as well. Its the biggest selling car in the country Im sure if it was a major issue it would show up, like VWs problem with DSG gearboxes and 1.8litre motors.

Ya know...if it was a real problem it would be kind of hard to keep it hushed up like some big conspiracy when they sell so damn many of them.
Obviously whatever the "computers are logging as a fault" isn't causing catastrophic failures or numerous breakdowns, or someone would have noticed by now and reported it in the media. "Sound deadener as a fix for noisy gearboxes"? Looking around under our G6E for example, I notice that there's an awful lot of sound deadener in a new Falcon...that 4.0 engine, while being powerful and pleasant to drive and economical, certainly isn't what you could call "smooth and refined" if you actually listen to the thing carefully for a while. |

if it`s a nasty fault give it a bit more time till they start getting some k`s up, people will start having a winge when it cost them money, but time will tell.

Quite a common thing with the Alloytech engines. Captiva too. They stretch out after about 2 years. Just one of the many issues with the VE.

Ive seen the timing chain issue on VE V6s first hand, had to replace chains on one at my old work, a Ford dealer of all places....apparently a very common problem in early VE's, holden has a TSB on the issue....

This sorrow first showed up in the early Alloytecs fitted to the VZ and then early VEs.
It's a shame that Ford's brilliant Duratec 35 and 37 are constantly compared to the disgraceful GM HFV6, they are worlds apart in terms of reliability...... Edit, It would be a cold day in hell before you ever see a problem like this in the FG Falcon I-6, stuff like stretched timing chains was cured nearly 20 years ago, hate to be in Holden's shoes. Gotta wonder why Ford in so much trouble when their FG is such a great car?, I think the trouble is marketing?

80,000km 1 year old Caprice SIDI V6 drank almost 2L of oil between services. Dealer said that it's "common" for them to do that. Really? 2L? It's ok though, they know about it - so it's got a 6.7L sump on it. Lol.
Have a engine light coming on sometimes too, Holden dealer just clears the code and gives the car back. Will make sure I pay more attention as to what code it is next time. Still love the car though. It's great. |

Maybe your BA had been thrashed as you weren`t the original owner?
