A few years ago some of the tiny inner city developments would just have space for micro cars. Your choice was drive a (singular) Smart car or nothing at all. Now part of the green push is for no permanent cars and use something like Flexicar for when you need to have wheels.

My place I can squeeze a few small cars in, I've got no height but a bit of floor area which means that something like a Territory is out of the picture. This also mens that I can't fit a car stacker. Thank goodness for parking sensors on the DD. And I can see go-jacks in my future.

They do seem small. I managed to fit a falcon and pulsar in ours but having to be careful getting out. Pulsar is now gone as have a work ute now which sits outside. I also got some bump stop stuff from Clark rubber that will stop damaging the doors if they hit the brickwork.

You're all imagining things. They're based on the size and turning circle of a Falcodore. But there's a difference between measurements and practice. So the rest is up to the skill of the driver, his/her sightlines and the girth of his/her waistline when getting out the door. The garage that suited me when I was 20 no longer suits me since "the thickening"!

First acreage property i lived in the darn neighbours kid and his druggie mates went open slather on the place, then 2 weels to the day done the shed over
The gear was other side of brissie within a few hours,and was picked to order,only select things went
They would scope acreage properties where people worked, and if neighbours each side worked, 2 house one time .......or 3 houses
The first thing i remember the copper asking was did we have a trailer .....
They load your goods in your trailer ,and take that as well

The town i lived in was the end of the train line,there was an old building near by, crooks would travel up on the train,help themselves,store in the building and wait for last train
Where i live now and around the area,you dont get any building material delivered or kit sheds unless your there, they go overnite .....

My next door neighbour's mate is a cop working in our area and the stats show that the vast majority of crooks apprehended for break in's where we live are from adjoining suburbs

The day I build a house, one stipulation I have is that the garage is plenty big for my car, so I have a ton of room not only to open doors, but so I can wash the car and do whatever else in there as well

When my parents moved into town from a farm quite a few years ago, the first thing that we did was pull down the shed that was there, and build this one:

Double remote door, with a single around the side, fits 4 cars/trailers, with plenty of working room down the side.

I'll be moving to Cairns mid year and I'll need space for 3 cars and a trailer. With at least one space in a locked shed for the coupe. Up there it's mostly apartments that only have one space so it rules out most places for me.

And yes when I get my own place I'll build a big shed, those coupe doors open really, really wide!

I live in a block of 15 townhouses, built in 2007. Two double garages in the whole place, I have one, the other is vacant. Due to the way my adjoining neighbour is built, I can't get two cars into the garage. Would have to put one in hard up against a wall and then the other against the other wall. Moving car one out would mean car tow would have to come out. Too hard, one parks down the front.

Out of the 15, six are used for storage. One guy uses his as an office, another as a place to store his fish in their tanks. I don't care, but when these jokers complain about not getting a car park, I simply point out the garage and say, we all have at least one provided to us.

A friend of mine who lives outside Rocky had just finished their dream home and posted pics on facebook.... house has a 3bay garage built into the home! and... out the back, a 3 bay shed... talk about home envy lol... gotta love a woman who agreed to 6bays all up.

Our 6x6 shed houses the G6ET and XL Falcon nicely, with workbench in front of the XL and general storage at the front of the G6ET. I do wish it was a little bigger at times

We built 2 years ago and one of the changes we made to the original house design was increase the width the garage from 6 to 8 meters. It added about $5 grand to the price but was well worth it. The extra 2 meters is used for storage and the remaining 6 m to park the project car and one of our daily drive cars.

Serious? Love my cars, always have but they sit out side and have done so for near on 30 years (not the same ones). I don't have an 8 car garage, and never will, but still want the cars. Nothing wrong with that? Most sit out side ... the Landau has its own garage. 5 are at home with the Mrs's car usually under the carport and the others where they fit at the time. Also store some at work. Might be a throw away society but has nothing to do with where cars are parked. Wouldn't be seen dead driving a Corolla because it fits comfortably in the garage!

The other cars are out on the street ....... removed the lawn to make a parking bay



Don't think garage size has anything to do with the size of cars today as the most popular cars are SUV's. Many are larger than Falcons. Also, inner city houses in Melb & Sydney never had on site parking and don't today while you see bazzillion BMW and Merc SUV's sitting at the curb at night.

we have just moved into our new house and the garage is 6x6. the wides Mazda firs nicelt, but the XR is a tight fit. there is barely enough room to get past the car. the extra few cm length the XR has over the Maz make a huge difference when it is parked.

Mines about 6m x 6 m. But they put 4 poles down the centre so I can't open my door all the way anyway.
Other side is used as storage for bikes, drumkit, BBQ and other misc items.
The trees out the back are destroying the missus car so we might have to think about making space in the garage.

Since its around the back it takes me atleast a 3 point turn to get into the garage.
Next time I'm hopefully going to build a house the way I want to.

This is a timely topic as I have a new house in Canberra and my garage is only 5.5m deep! Just fits the Falcon...just! Soooo annoying. I could have sworn i asked the lady to ensure it was 6m deep like my previous place.

I mean this is Australia FFS, we arent short for land! Damn ACT govt! I cant blame in one way, coz this Territory government gets so much revenue from stamp duty it needs to sell as many tiny blocks of land as it can. But a 5.5m garage wont fit a station wagon or Caprice or a Ranger.

Looking at houses at present. Most come with a 6x6 standard, I'm looking to go at least a 9x6 or possibly 9x8. Give me a bit more room, still cannot convince the missus that I need a split system in the shed. I'm sure she'll come round.

good idea. like i said, my Falcon just fits. how anyone gets anything bigger in one is a mystery. even 1 metre longer would have made a huge difference.

My AU cannot go in my garage, it is too wide and the laneway is quite narrow so requires a decent turning circle, bad luck AU...

The Volvo 240, well that thing turns on a dime, 9.8m turning circle VS the Falcons 11M, it's also narrower... So Volvo got the garage before the Bluebird came along.

Now the Nissan Bluebird sits in the garage, turning circle is similarly ridiculous to the Falcons, also at 11M, but is narrow enough to fit.

Maybe Ford should figure out how to make their cars turn ??? then no issues.

I used to live in my cousins new house which had a 6x6 garage. I could just get the FG ute inside and nudge the wall (rubber mat on wall for bumper), to be able to drop the door, cm to spare.
A good mate observing this, and ready to build his new house, specified a 7x7 garage.
Heaps of room. Room for a bench, shelving and two big cars with easy opening of doors.
If I get the opportunity to build a house, I too will specify a big garage, especially if I build on a small block, with no room for a big shed. Okay it costs a bit more, but so does a big shed. And it is good usable space, attached to the house, ready for a party or anything.

I bought my house 5 years ago and the original owner/builder was good enough to include a triple garage

However, due to the reversing skills of my wife......she puts her Focus in the double garage and I just fit my Jeep into the single one.
The space in between the cars has my drum kit.
