Finally after years of frustration with rain delays and niggling problems.. Norm Bradshaw has broken the 400kph barrier with a Stella run at 408.7kph on the first day of Speed Week held at sunny lake Gairdner in Sth Australia .
The Dynomotive prepared 441ci small block Ford powered its way through the 3 mile traps on low boost at 6500 rpm On day 3 when Norm lined to move the World record ( which is only 11 mph away) Norm decided to run the higher boost setting ( still relative low at 16 psi) but the twin plate Crower clutch let go and the taxi could only manage 400kph. The team has now set its sights on a return to Boneville to wrestle the World record back. Well done all involved

Wonder if that roof mounted thing is removed when racing? Would cause a heap of drag at those speeds wouldn't it? They did choose the right car for the job ;)

See ... not all AU's were bad ... they at least had an excellent Drag Co-efficient rating.

What record are they going for?
I've been keeping an eye on the Slaughter Motorsports streamliner and they did really well too, got over 400km/h as well. Would have been cool to be there!

That is Falcon awesome!!!
Well done, that is some crazy speed. I've often thought the AU would be the perfect vehicle to go for records in being so slippery. Good luck and go get that world record (back)!

Anyone who's been to 200kmh know its fairly moving...240-250 is scary stuff IMO but 400+...in a AU ( no disrespect here, I love em!) even highly modified is dead set proof someone has some big goolies

The problem with that is that this thing would take way longer than 1/4 mile to get to that speed. I think I heard that the track out there was 8 miles, so acceleration off the mark wont be that great. Though in a race to 8 miles this would win, with the top fueller not lasting the distance. A real credit to those who build these engines, crazy power but have to last far longer at full throttle than a drag car.

Reading in Motor Magazine today about the writers / editors scaries moments in a car. It was said that the BA's weren't speed tested above 220km. The guy got up to 307km in a modified XR6 Turbo and lost control, causing the brakes to go on fire... Said the rear wing did nothing and the back end let go. Was conducted on a runway.
Wonder what 400km plus in an old AU feels like!!

Bugger! I was at Gairdner that day, left for home about 3 pm 'cause another car had taken out the long course timing equipment and was going to be ages to fix. Heard on the radio that the taxi was in the next group to run after the timing was fixed. Missed it by minutes by the sound of things. Well done Norm!
