Oh and FYI, your account will NEVER actually be deleted off Facebook servers...

Even people who don't have registered Facebook account have "profiles" on Facebook server. These 'ghost' profiles are generated based on associations, names being mentioned, tagged friends etc.

So for anyone who think's that tin foil will protect you... Facebook has this to say:

Facebook has a motto taken from the old Eagles song 'Hotel California'......

"you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave."

There is an option to deactivate your account under www.facebook.com/deactivate.php with the ability of restoring it again like you never left.

I dont think you can actually delete your account just put it on 'hold' in a way until you want to use it again

Me either. I don't even have an account. One of the last in Australia I think to not have one!

pretty broad opinion, however i do understand the hate for it. Mostly morons taking smirking selfies every 2nd day with the aim to get 50 'likes' by other desparate morons.

but then theres people like me who only have relatives as "friends", which i dont get to see them much at all. I use FB to post up pics of the family so my relatives can all see, and vice versa.

See, I don't get this.
Everyone already has a much more private way of sharing photos electronically, by using email.
Why must facebook be the default? So many times I hear people saying they don't like the whole facebook thing and they only use it to share pics, etc. Is there something wrong with attaching your photos to a little note via email and sending to particular addresses?

I don't have an account but have just seen a third family member succumb to it (teenager daughter proudly held out against the peer pressure for a good while there).
No longer does "I haven't had time to......" cut it in this house, going by the time wasted sitting on that bloody site.

FB allows me to send multiple pics to many family members at the same time, easier than sending multiple emails.

FB is instant, whereas email can sometimes take alot longer.

FB allows all our relatives to share comments and have an open discussion, email does not.

you say you dont get FB, well why would email be any better?

im well aware what FB has become, but i find if i use it to connect with family that i dont get to see, its worth using. I constantly get friend requests from people i know, and i tell them family only.

Fair enough.
My main point for email would be about privacy and control of who sees what.
Any lag in email is of minor inconvenience, after all we are talking about sharing family snaps.

Wasn't having a go at you in particular, just your comment sounded a lot like the "Oh I can't stand FB, I only use it for ....." people that spend 4 hours of the 24 we get each day browsing other people's, supposedly private, business.

(I'd rather waste my time reading forums )

It's pretty basic. Think of Facebook as an RSS feed of family/friends. I never use email in my private life anymore. Only for work. It's either Skype or Facebook and rarely SMS/MMS. I really can't remember the last time I sent an email from my gmail account.
