you must have too much power, and it welded the gearbox into 4th gear.

it would be 3rd gear, and as karl said, limp home mode, check fluid levels, and your fuses.

its when the auto gets confused. limp home mode is just that a fail safe so you can get to a service centre to get fixed.

usually, a switch like tps can cause it, or bad wiring connector to the gearbox, trans controller not working properly, or ecu in later cars (as they are combined).

could just be low fluid.

Sorry mate. Just how everyone was talking about autos in limp home mode.

Does the clutch work? If it was broken youd have trouble pulling it out of gear.
Sounds pretty bad.

yeah sounds like the clutch has gone, or the cable has snapped. How do you drive it if it's stuck in 4th ?

Get someone to pump the clutch while your under the car and see if the fork is moving, if it is then your presure plate has probably let go.

If its a clutch problem have a look at the firewall where the cable comes out of the dash and into the engine bay. Common problem is that the firewall collapses and you pedal would ge right to the floor.

I knew it was a 5 speed! just limp mode on the auto locks it to 3rd which is 1:1 ratio so locked in 4th is kinda like the 5 speeds limp mode.
