Default What Car Your Thoughts Please

Friend has an older AU and is looking to update a little. Family man 2 small kids not expanding. He asked about how my FG is but his budget is 2008 XT so I said hard to compare 2009 XR6T which I love. I checked the under 15k cars today not knowing his limit and saw some Mondeo TDCI's in the price bracket. They dont have much power but very good P/W ratio. It would probably be slightly higher servicing but lower fuel costs and plenty of fruit compared to bare bones XT. In his position I would lean to Mondeo. Whats your thoughts?

Yeah probably not a bad suggestion as the FG only had the basics and being a 2008 FG it would have come with some first-run niggles that were cleared up later. Probably better in the FG than the Mondeo for interior space though.

dad has a mc titanium tdci and loves it, heaps of go and only uses $30 a week compared to his g6e which used $90, servicing is around the 400 mark but brakes are done every 50000 which is $1200, size wise not as much shoulder room or knee room as a fg but has alot more rear leg room. that is coming from a 6 foot 5 bloke so may not even concern him, in saying that i find it really comfortable. not sure about the other models but his has isofix which may be usefull for your mate

As his kids are only 6 and 3 I think he wont need as much room untill they grow to early teens. That was my experience. TBH I bought a near new car when the kids were little and regretted it, little kids ruin your cars.

Mondeo is a nice car in my opinion and worthy of consideration.

My wife had a Mondeo (MA) for 4 years. We have only just recently sold it. It was a great car with lots of fruit and safety features. Plenty of room, 4cyl rego, economical and comfortable. Servicing was no dearer than any other car.

In the pics on the sales sites the seats look flat and uncomfortable.

I've got a TDCI Focus, same engine.

Car has a lot of torque, mine is 6sp manual but you can pull up hills with no problems pulling 1500 RPM 4th gear and boot it and accelerate nicely.

Also done 71,000km and on original rotors/pads.

I'm also looking at a Mondeo but the XR5 variant.
