Default EF Turbo - Progress

Its been a long time coming (parts bought about a year ago now) but its finally starting to come together

Sorry about the pic quality, but it was late in the afternoon in a workshop, with the sun shining at exactly the wrong angle, and taken with a phone.

Obviously not finished, but getting there

Your very right there, a mate has a similar setup to me and melted to brake booster!! I'm having a heatshield made up for either the booster or the wastegate (the turbo is actually quite a long way from the booster) the dump pipe will be quite close as well, so probably better to put the shield over the booster, but we'll see what fits.

For the moment I hope it makes very little :

There is a 3psi spring in the wastegate but most people are getting 6psi with a 3psi spring and kyles manifolds on a GT35/40R. So hopefully it will only make 170-190rwkws. The auto is a little sad and thats the first stop after everything is fitted. Once the auto is sorted I'll wind it up a little, 10-14psi and shoot for 240-280rwkws.

I'm sure the motor will die at this point (270,000k motor) and then I'll rebuild with low comp and wind it up to 18-24psi depending where I get the most power. Hopefully it will make around 360-370rwkws.

It will be a LOOOOOONG development process, unless people want to make donations hahah :

Will get it engineered at some point as getting it approved here in WA isn't quite as hard as most states.

Looking good.

Brown? Are you sure? Where did you get it from?

http://www.tialsport.com/documents/w3_tial_44_sp.pdf

I just took mine apart, I got it from kyle also and it had 2 red springs in it. The red one is a 4.3 psi spring, the bigger red one is 10.1psi.

edit: Im assuming you have a tial gate which you might not.

The engine bay looks exactly like my old AU one, I miss it.

I ordered it from XSpeed here in perth, my WG is a 48mm progate

Yeah I'm sure it was brown, it was ordered directly from the turbosmart catalog at XSpeed

edit: Sorry to bring back the memories :(
I'm itching to drive the damn thing

Ahh now it makes sense. The engine should be alright for a little while, when I turboed my EB it had 300,000kms I ran 10 psi into it for about 15000kms.

Good luck with it all, turbo falcons are great fun!

Your totally right. Ive gone through 2 in 4 months as i dont have a heat shield.

Produced about a 5cm crack in it.

Why they make things plastic(water pump pulley) in these cars is beyond me.

Oh, its a 4.3 psi spring??? Must be a damn good manifold if on minimum boost im hitting 7psi :P

@delta, what fuel and engine management you going to run??? Gotta love that pipework. Looks great.

Sweet, 4.3 is too low and I wasnt sure if 10 was too much for this engine as it is.

7 would be perfect as a full time boost level. :

Just a little update, the car went on the dyno for tuning yesterday and Problems Problems Problems, the car is overboosting (probably the wastegate outlet of the manifold is at the wrong angle) and the brake booster melted (expected this)

I should have got them to print me a dyno graph, at 3500rpm it put down 315rwhp and the graph was almost vertical

how much are you expecting it to make at full RPM based on that run.

What boost controller are you using?

It seems odd that the wastegate postion would cause your problems.

there is no boost controller, and we checked that the wastegate is getting a proper signal from the intake manifold, so the only thing left is that the wastegate outlet on the manifold is at 90deg to the turbo outlet, and really only comes from two maybe three cylinders. The exhaust from the other 4-3 has to pass over the 6->1 collector to get out. The guys at ovaboost are going to do a cut n shut on the mainfold and move the gate to go off the turbine housing.

Heres a couple of pics of the manifold, its one from 6boost made by Kyle, absolute work of art, unfortunately it just can't get the exhaust out of the wastegate.

Mmm merge collectors

My wastegate pipe is on the side closest to the camera in the pic right in the middle and closer to the flange.

Have you spoken Kyle about it? He may have a better suggestion as to what the problem is.

No idea, but if its making 315 at 3500, I'de say at least 400 at 4500 the way the graph was rising. But it was fairly high boost, so thats not surprising.

The car is meant to be running only 6psi or so atm till I get the gearbox sorted, so seeing that figure was both wonderful (will make good power later) and scary (bye bye gearbox).

Ok, just got off the phone with Kyle (hes certainly very helpful), he said putting the wastegate off the turbine housing should fix all . He was surprised that it had overboosted tho.

I'll let everybody know how it goes.
