Turn the sub up and the ball joint in the mirror arm snaps ... like what happened to me in my last ute.
Then you get rid of the rattle that way

New mirror can lessen it but not stop it. Mines starting to move around during general driving in the T so times for a new one.

Had this issue myself recently, and it's not the first time on the S2. The S1 has never had any issues, as the mirror is held onto the window metal by a small Allen Screw.
S2 they went a cheaper route. The metal base (which glues to window) is a different shape, which is annoying as I tried to put a S1 mirror onto the S2 base, but alas no joy! If you have a S2-3 and the mirror base falls off the glass, replace the whole lot with a S1 setup, that way you shouldn't have the vibration issues. The Reason: The S2-3 mirror just slides on the base with no screw to hold it firm. Over time, the metal rail on the mirror itself loosens as it loses tension. the actual rail (clip) is only held to the mirror with two rivet type thingy's! The Potential Fix: 1. New Mirror! 2. Use epoxy glue or similar to apply to these rivets to stop the metal rail (clip) from moving around. the first time it happened to me (a few years ago) I replaced the mirror. A few years later on (two weeks ago) it's started again and I tried the epoxy solution. The Result: It's heaps better, but not as good as when I replaced the whole mirror. If you choose to get one from a wreckers, look carefully at the metal clip and the two rivets. If there's any movement, get another. If you get a new item, SWEET! A Thought: It might be possible to actually drill out the rivets and try to use small screws to reattach the clip/rail, but there doesn't appear to be too much mirror material to actually screw them into. If you're going to get another mirror, I guess it's be worth a go though. Nothing to lose! Another Thought: If there's a chemical you could apply to the windscreen to dissolve the glue holding the mounting plate, so you could get it off undamaged, you could replace the whole lot with the S1 setup. Anyone know of such a product? Hope this helps. GK

I just sit my wallet on top of it, it stops the rattling. Just watch out when you are going around corners.

What's the state of play with the ute? Have you been able to get a quote from one of those joints that removes dings? GK

hi,
I don't have a sub in my car, but I found since having really stiffened up my car's suspension - my rear view mirror used to vibrate while driving. I went to Clarke Rubber and got a piece of 1mm thick/5cm wide/1 foot length of rubber. All I did was cut a couple of pieces of this rubber and slipped it behind the mirror mount itself where it would 'slip' in - doesn't vibrate as much any more....if that makes sense.

Seems as though this is a common prob! mine vibrates too with stock non premium sound and no sub, as does the external drivers side mirror, i was thinking of replacing the internal mirror when i get a new windscreen now i think i'll have a look at the S1 version. Cheers

Add stick on wheel weights to the top of the mirror, this has worked on my AU2 for the last 15 years.

I can’t give advice on sub woofer vibrations (could be instant karma perhaps?🤣 I hate doof doof), but my interior rear view mirror started vibrating badly a while ago on my AU3 sedan. I was going to buy a mirror removal tool online but then I thought I’d try and make my own rather than pay $25 or more for ten cents worth of plastic. So I made my own in about two minutes flat out of a piece of conveniently sized scrap wood (I think it was from an old bit of interior door stop/jamb). It’s about 200mm long, 25 mm wide, with a slightly chamfered end on it that I filed down with a wood rasp. Put the flat, non-chamfered side against or angled slightly away from the windscreen glass, put the chamfered end onto the end of the two spring clips that hold the mirror onto the windscreen mounting plate, and carefully but firmly give the end of the wooden tool a couple of taps upwards to compress the spring clips. If you’ve done it properly you should see the mirror base move up a few mm as the spring clip disengages. Then, keeping the wooden tool in position, tap the mirror stalk or base upwards some more and it should just slide off. I used a smaller hammer for more control. When I got my mirror off, it was clear that the problem is that the spring clip plate had vibrated loose from the two river heads holding it into the mirror base. You could try gluing it I suppose, but I just rested the mirror base in a vice ( protected with a rag), got an old gearbox shaft that I use as a metal drift, placed it on top of the two rivets and gave the rivets a couple of taps with a hammer. The rivets are quite soft metal, as you’d expect, and a couple of light to medium taps was sufficient to bulge the heads out a bit so they relocated the spring clip plate and held it firm again. A tiny bit of vaseline on the inside of the spring clip plate on the edges where it slides over the base plate just in case I need to get it off again, and it went back on easily. Problem solved! No more rattles. 😁

Using the 3M VHB double sided rubber sandwich pads use to mount dash cams etc might work. 3M used to sell a similar thing for mirrors too but I can't find a listing now.
