Hi All,
I have a PXII Ranger 2017 XLT auto transmission stopped working while towing our caravan, had the transmission rebuilt with upgraded bearings, valve body and lead frame. The workshop who refitted the transmission weren't able to replace the Valve Body Number and the Solenoid Strategy in the computer do I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer to have this done. Turns put the dealer workshop only changed the Valve Body number and did not enter the Solenoid Strategy Values after which the transmission become behaving oddly particularly when changing from 5th to 6th gear when only feathering the throttle at around 1500rpm. Took the vehicle to the workshop that did the overhaul of the transmission, (I couldn't be more happy with these guys, they have gone above and beyond) they entered the Solenoid Strategy Codes and the transmission operated as it should for a few days then started misbehaving as before when in drive mode and changing from 5th to 6th when feathering the throttle at around 1500rpm. The valve body and lead frame were changed a second time and the valve body number and Solenoid Strategy Codes entered into the computer. Again the transmission operated correctly for a few days, then back to the prior issue with 5th to 6th gear change up in drive mode. Took the vehicle to a Ford Dealer to have all modules checked for updates and to make sure they were operating correctly, was advised that no updates missing and could find no fault. Transmission still not operating correctly. Through the original transmission overhauler the vehicle was taken to another Ford dealer for checking of all control modules, the dealer reset the modules and the transmission operated correctly for around 3,000klm most of which was towing a caravan while using sport mode.Although I discovered that Adaptive Cruise Control no longer works. Now the fault in changing from 5th to 6th when feathering the throttle at around 1500rpm has returned. I do not believe that the fault is mechanical, but rather incorrect communications being relayed to the Transmission Control Module. Ant ideas will be appreciated. |

mmmm. As it's a repeat issue, I doubt it's actually the software or the coding. I think I'd start by getting an auto elec to make sure none of the connector pins are backed out.
For the ACC, did this just stop now? have you had a bullbar fitted? |

Hi Simon,
Regarding the ACC it was working prior to being taken to the Ford Dealer to have the modules checked, the dealer carried out a reset of the modules, when I tried to set cruise ACC following this work The message displayed on the dash was 'Adaptive Cruise Control is not available' having said that this message has displayed previously but has always 'reset' after turning off the ignition. In this case it has not. Further to that Normal Cruise Control doesn't work and the message on the dash is something about braking not functioning, I shall try it tomorrow and advise the exact message. As far as the pins backing out, that is something I hadn't considered and I shall consult an Auto Electrician and get this checked. The vehicle isn't fitted with a bull bar and still has the original bumper and has never had any type of impact. Thanks again cheers John Last edited by Wjohn51; 21-03-2025 at 08:12 PM. |
