As far as I know, the bottom end is standard, they're allowed to port the head and they all run the same cam and extractors. I believe they run an aftermarket management system (Motec?) as well.

Ok they all run the same cam. You are not allowed to do any changes to the ports (no polishing, no porting, no shaping), You can change valves, springs, retainers, and have the chambers CC. They are all 3.9L heads and the swerll is not allowed to be removed. The bottomend you are allowed to run ACL race series kit, Blue print it etc....

Trans is a EA/EB 5speed. And Diff is either 3.23 or 3.45 gears with 25 spline axles.

Engine management is EMS Stinger across the field.

I wish they would brink that series back to clipsal again!

They are in some ways more enjoyable to watch over the V8SC because of their 'no guts no glory' attitude. Plus you can relate better to them as you see them on the road everyday.

last I heard. The Au guys were going to have to fit a ea 3.9L engine, trans and diff. But I am not up to date with the in's and out's of the intro of the AU and VT into the series

These things are pretty awesome, they seem to really haul for the modifications that are allowed too. And as with most controlled classes, theres all kinds of really cool sneaky mods that go on to try and get 1-up on the competition.

The main things that set them apart from your EA-EB1-

Big Cebco(?) front rotor/caliper kit
Camshaft (controlled spec)
Engine blueprinting
PPG gearset for the T5 trans
Minispool
EMS engine management (controlled spec)
16x8 wheels
Control suspension package (springs/shocks/etc)
Control race rubber
Exhausts are free (you choose which extractors, etc)
and all of the usual CAMS safety requirements (cage, seat, etc)

I'd love a drive of one...

- John

They are 'allowed' to retrofit their early model engines (for both commy & falcon) so as to lower the up front cost of updating bodyshells, but once the newer style engine has been used, they can't go back to the old one. yes the T5 remains. check the rules for more detail if you are keen.

Great class of racing & very popular. Interesting to see that their lap times compare well to the V8 Brutes. The saloon cars are actually faster @ some tracks so they must be getting some good corner speeds.

Rules for ea/eb vn/vp, straight from the cams manual.
"13.5 Differential.
A 28 spline "mini spool" must be fitted to the existing differential housing. It is
permitted to fit mechanically identical replacement rear axles. The final drive ratio must be 3.45:1 for both Commodore and Falcon (tooth count 38:11)."

Now will you lot stop crying about the longevity of a 25 spline axle?

no, it was just annoying to see the whinging about a simple error about a minor detail when we could be discussing how good this category is.

How bout directing the discusssion towards how they get such good lap times with only simple changes to the suspension & a few other bits?

There is no seem welding (just a roll cage & a strut tower brace), no downforce, no more than 4deg neg camber, no head or intake changes (save for a port match & bead blast), wheels on the earlier models are only 16x8, etc.

Any discussion bout the technical details on the e-series can be view here http://www.tascco.com.au/downloads/T...cal%20Regs.pdf this is exactly as it is in the cams manual last year. It all seems so simple, yet it is so effective @ making these cars grip the road.

Why start a new thread when I can dig up an old one?

This may be of interest to any of you who have mates with a modern falcodore V8.

Check this out. (Sorry to those of you who saw me post this already in EB Pete's thread : )
http://www.tascco.com.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=79

As i eluded to in an earlier post, at Wakefield Park last year, the first 7 saloon cars (4 of which were falcons) qualified faster than the fastest V8 Brute, & it is not the first time it has happened.

I guess the old E-series has some potential yet? :eclipsee_

be sure you consider the weight difference between an EA and a BA ute (a lot)

Spot on. Power to weight. Those new V8 cars are just rediculously heavy, & it shows in the lap times.
