The catch is that they contain aspartame, a known carcinogen. Them and Extra chewies and almost anything else claiming zero sugar and retaining sweetness.

OK - sweetners 950 and 951 are NASTY little creatures.
950 was reported to riddle rodents with cancers - common and rare ones. Long term effects on humans yet to be seen. FDA doesnt see reason to remove the approval of this substance. 951 is renown to be the "worst" sweetner ever. 10% of the product, by mass, is actually methanol. When methanol is broken down in the lower intestine, it produces formaldehyde.... something which already exisits in the body, but anyone who knows what its used for will know you dont want to materially increase the presence of this substance in your body. Also rich in phenylalanine - which has a known effect on the plasma of the blood, raising phenylalanine levels in the blood which some doctors think has an impact on the production of certian cell types in the brain... other doctors say we dont ingest enough for it to be a problem. Its been proven to cause luekemia and lymphoma in mice... but no conclusive evidence regarding humans. Think i'll wait for the jury to come back on this one.... and keep paying the dentist in the mean time

I dont understand people who buy these drinks, if you cant even enjoy a coke then you have some other issues, and you should stick to water.

Yep, I'll only drink the real Coke, I'd rather natural sugar over artifical sweeteners.
That and it tastes soo much better... Best would have to be Maccas Coke. Drank it for 4 years whilst working there. (I'm actually less fit now eating sandwiches at work and home cooked meals for dinner, than I was having a Maccas-only diet. Oh yeah. Next time your at Maccas order a small diet Coke. It smells like bourbon! |

either i read that wrong or your just ignorant and asking for trouble writing that... did you think about people that cant have sugar in that sort of amounts? like myself? i only found out 2 and a half weeks ago i have diabetes, and i dont need comments like that... and im sure other people dont either... now if i read it and understood it wrongly, feel free to correct me... otherwise think before you write on here, or speak anywhere else for that matter... btw a can of coke contains the same amount of sugar/carbs you should be containing in a main meal... thats what ive been told anyway... |

Sorry about your situation, but now that you know why would you continue to drink soft drink at all? Dont need comments like what? Not being able to drink soft drinks really isn't the end of the world. And whats wrong with water anyway? Other than some tap water being a bit odd tasting.
