Day 2 into a mega irrigation install on a semi rural property, involving pressure pumps, well pumps, storage tanks, and a park like lawn area with new rotors installed.
Got to the stage of switching on and aligning all the spray heads, and caught a glimpse of the owner just standing there absolutely chuffed that he now has proper sprinklers

I’m a late convert to them, only used them in the last 5 years or so.
Pros- Low flow = more sprinklers per station. Wind resistant- those delicate little wands of water do cut through the breeze quite nicely. Cons- Price-where in am they are $15 per head not inc the sprinkler body. Low flow means low precipitation-they must run for a long time to soak the grass, don’t use if you have a tight wad customer who baulks at a 1.5hr run time per station. Did I mention price? A pain when you destroy them with the lawn mower regularly. *Apologies-not in the mowing thread*

At the nursery, about 8 years ago management decided to replace all of our nursery sprinklers from the old brass Naan impacts to these MP Rotors. So, going from the highest to lowest flow sprinklers. These sprinklers are used to water the majority of the nursery after hours. The problem is, they just don't deliver enough water to thoroughly water the plants, often only wetting the top centimeter or two of the pot. Where the old Naans would keep up with temperatures to about 35-37 degrees without supplemental watering during the day, these MP Rotors have lowered that figure to about 30 degrees, a pretty standard summer temperature. I find this frustrating because the system is supposed to save on labor during the day. In the pursuit supposed water savings, they are now paying me to hand water most days through summer. And yes, the cost is stupid high. Overall, I see them as robbing Peter to pay Paul.

It reminds me of during the drought a “water saving” garden hose was introduced with great fanfare by one of our suppliers. It was a hose with an inbuilt flow restrictor. Great in theory, if you’re filling a 10lt bucket, it still uses 10lt but takes twice as long durrrr.

Last week in Melbourne CBD a bloke goes past on a bicycle, with at least two bicycles (could have been three) in line behind him, all attached somehow, and four of those little two-wheel trailer things (that you can put one or two little kids in) all in line behind the bikes. ???

I've built up a backlog of around 12 weeks annual leave. I was going to use it early next year in one block, but plans have changed and I have no need to take it all in one block now. So, I've taken every second Monday through to the end of the year off. Couple that with our rdo which is every second Monday, and I've got a four day week for the rest of the year.
Decided to take advantage of the day off and the good weather to get in my first nine holes for the year. With all the water sitting around in the common, it's hard to believe we're desperate for some rain.

I still remember Crazy Dazz buying an alternator from them. Didn’t he claim it made his towball explode or something?

Today is the vernal equinox. From today, for the next six months, we have more daylight hours than night hours.
Next milestone is daylight savings, which is the first weekend in Oct. Bring it on, baby!

Weather has been pretty good around here although at night it's a bit mixed. I booked my evap cooler service this week for the 6th.
I took off 29-3 leave and finally booked in a quote to convert all my lights to LEDs which I kept forgetting to do Now just have to do the car service at some point but have to work out the $$$ |

I'm not really an AFL follower, but as a Magpies fan it's hard not to get wrapped up in the momentum of your team winning the minor premiership and then winning through to the grand final.
Go pies!

Nice simple install this morning.
Client asked me to carve out a piece of granite from their mountain side farm. Apparently known as a 'Reflection Stone". I would call it a birdbath but who knew. Long as it pays well.

Not necessarily what made me feel good, rather made me laugh because this is basically what I have to do in the name of "customer service", ie politely greet customers ala "good morning, how are you today" and then have the question returned back. Probably not good for business to reply like below...........

Yes. Piece of cake.
Found both pieces up on the hillside and brought them down, across the paddock as well. It's Ok, Tonz you don't have to like it.
