dont no how any one could safley read any of the standard gauges properly (apart from the speedo) while driving anyways ..usally just a quick check while at the lights ( or it could be the failing eye sight in me old age or the fluffy dice swinging from the rear veiw mirror blocking my view : )
P.S "BUCKY" I have a spare set of dice (or is that dye) now mite have to put them on E Bay

(This is Blackers using debs computer)
i dont use the ashtray anyway so i couldnt tell you if you can open it LOL
but it is easy to pull the guage pod out and take the ashtray out etc..

would be cool if they could make it a triple pod and have a guage or 2 mount flush where the ashtray should go

Don'y worry about it ... I am getting an electrical oil pressure gauge so it can be mounted in the cabin ... so that's cool with me.

I doubt the light will bother you ... I have to put up with the amp remote LED on my bass control on my dash for the Jaycar amp ... that blue LED is blinding ... so i doubt the backlighting on the gauges will be that annoying.

Blackers ... where'd you tap the temp sensor in for the gearbox????
As I am interesting in getting one of these as well at a later date.
I was thinking of putting it in the line from the trans to the aux trans cooler ... in past the clamp on the hose.

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer in what I was trying to say. The light isn't distracting at all and doesn't bother me. I've got a hand controller in a similar spot in my other car, and it displays some useful info that I have been trying to watch for diagnostic purposes. In that spot though, it is simply too hard to drive and glance at the panel. I've had A pillar guages in one of my previous cars, and although very ricey, I did find them much more useful in that spot.

Thanks for the offer Whoosha, but we just had this new gift store open in Canberra, and it stocks ford fluffy dice and it also stocks Essendon Fluffy Dice. I'm undecided at which set to get. :

Cool ... something to think about later I guess.
I picked up my gauges yesterday afternoon ... now i just need to get the t-piece fitting from Pirtek now for the oil pressure sender ... and then I'll get them fitted.

I just got Short Sweep Autometer Sport Comp black face gauges.

Will post pics later on.

I'm thinking about making up a fibre glass centre facia that will take 3 gauges accross the top where the clock would normally go. Ive just moved so will probably start looking at it mid november.

THat will be interesting, but wouldnt that require cutting up alot of facia? are you considering making a full 1/3 facia for the top 1/3 of the entire unit? so all you have to do is cut and install...

Nope, that would be too easy. The entire facia will be one piece, as it already is but will require a bit of cutting to make sure all the dals and buttons still sit fit in the same with a few coats of glass. I'll be getting a few facias from the wreckers to work it out.

Here's mine sitting in place ... just need to do the final wiring up .... already have the oil pressure sender wire run through ... just need to hook up to power now and they will be working.

Mine opens all the way as well.
Taking it out completely though to clean it might be a different story.
But I gave up smoke about 3 years ago ... so it doesn't bother me too much now anyway ... a vacuum cleaner could still clean it out though if needed.

Mine opens that far as well ... but to remove the entire ashtray I think is a no-go unless you remove the pods.

Hee hee ... i have the same granules in mine as well ... can't remember the last time I replaced them actually.
