EA Falcon. Yep, plain old EA. I remember the first time I saw one at the car rental place, and immediately fell in love with its gorgeous styling which was considered by many to be 'ahead of its time'. Not many cars from 1988 looked as good and as modern as the EA Falcon did.
Pity it wasn't quite as reliable. I owned one for 7 years, and spent twice as much as I paid for the car on repairs. |

EF/EL XR6/8
Forget which, I would have been less then 10 years old, I was down the street with my parents and we walked past a car dealer, they had a pair of Metalic Green XR's out the front. The first ford (after my parents old Blue XD at the time) that I loved. |

Never been able to find it since but a 2 page centre poster in a wheels magazine of a pearl black EBGT before it was officially launched - notably it didn't have the alloys that Ford released the car with. Looked stunning to a young fulla.

Unobtainables? GT40 without question...XYGT a close second. Mate had one on gold with black stripes, it was the Grooms car at our wedding, just a classic shape.
Obtainables? Our old 1970 Cortina GT in Desert Gold with black stripes...it was on a stand at the front of the car yard when we drove past and it just snapped our necks as we looked at it, did a u-turn, and went back to check it out. I never even knew thety made them...I knew about the earlier Cortina GT's, but didn't know about the later ones. Next day we bought it. My mate with the gold XYGT said, when we parked it beside his GT in his driveway: "Looks like a baby XYGT"... I still kick myself for selling it... |

My Whoa list is a lot bigger than just these, but these 3 will always instantly come to mind.

The only Ford to physically stop me in my tracks is the Phase 4. There is something about this car which is more than just metal. It gives off an aura. Yes I have seen it up close after the restoration and it literally did stop me in my tracks and give me tingles.
Other than that the AU 300+ was one of my favourites too!

I think the RS Focus was a great step as well. The Falcon G6ET has made me say wow considering it's a luxury car for quite a good price with lightning fast speeds.

Before I was 10 most of my family had Falcons of some sort, Mum had an XF, Dad had an XD, Grandparents got around in an XB Falcon 500 but my uncle and his mates cars made me go wow.
My uncle had an XB wagon with a 351, my first V8 experience that I remember. But the day I saw his mates XC Cobra for the first time was probably the day Ford became a permanent obsession.

My old man brought home a company brand new Gold EA Fairmont in 1989.
For me it looked like some kind of limo from the future.

11 years old, going down to the Ford dealer with my uncle in his XY GT to trade it in on a brand new XA GT RPO Coupe, you could not have got me out off that coupe with an explosive charge.....
Never been the same since.....

for me, every new model is better than the one it replaces.
falcon = FG focus = ST? on the road, i'd have to say the focus has the 'wow' factor in spades. not talking about your garden variety, or even xr5t. the new one in kermit green(not sure its correct name), is awesome. (see post #47) |

For me it was as a 'Holden' kid growing up the XE ESP! I would still have one now.
Then what really got me out of my HSV Senator at the time was the BA XR6 Turbo. Absolutely wonderful car. I've been in Fords ever since. BA Fairmont Ghia and then on to the G6E Turbo. Both the BA XR6T in Phantom and the G6ET had me go WHOA enough to buy them. And the G6ET is clearly so far and away the best car I have ever had it isn't funny. Brilliant.

The release of the AU made me say WHOA!! Not in a good way though.
From that point on Ford did a reasonable job of a bad situation with the model updates. But IMO without that disaster we wouldn't have got the BA as we know it and the direction the car brand has taken since. |
