What is a W427?

Sounds like a product code for a Holden Cappacino mug.....

I checked out the link in this thread, and found this...

Quote:
"......................built by a manufacturer in Australia.

As to the W427 sedan, the original concept car was produced in the same body colour as the very first HSV model, the VL Commodore SS Group A SV.

The production version HSV W427 sedan was announced in August 2008 and retailed for A$155,500 (EUR€90920) without optional equipment. Additional cost options amounted to three items : Electric Glass Sunroof, Satellite Navigation, and Rear Passenger Overhead DVD Player. Production was originally intended as a limited run of 427 cars. However, only 137 cars were built (this number does not include the original concept car), sold only in Australia and New Zealand (only three cars were exported to NZ).[6]

Reportedly,[7] Holden Special Vehicles offered the pre-order of build #427 to the Cairns Monaro collector Shawn Ryan, who purchased the 2002 HRT 427 coupe for $920,000 in 2008. Build #427 is a unique car finished in Panorama silver. The last W427 to be built was made to order in July 2009, being build #137 in Heron White, sold by Shacks HSV in Fremantle, Western Australia, and personally signed by Tom Walkinshaw.

Production colours and quantities : PHANTOM black metallic (44), HERON WHITE (35), STING RED (29), NITRATE (2008) / SWITCH BLADE (2009) silver metallic (23), EVOKE grey metallic (6). Refinished colours (included in the Nitrate / Switch Blade quantities) : PANORAMA silver metallic (2), Lamborghini Green metallic (1).

The HSV W427 will be noted in TWR / HSV history as the only car to which Tom Walkinshaw 'personally' attached his name.

In terms of ultimate speed attained by road registered Australian 'based'performance automobile, W427 is easily eclipsed by the "rapid" coloured BA series XR8 sedan owned and seldom operated by Hulk BA. Apparently a formidable package, incorporating side mount intercooled / supercharged standard engine package, save for crow camshafts, a revised fuel system and 4.11 final drive ratio. Despite a conservative state of engine tune, with a low rev limit set just beyond 6000 rpm, this package comfortably produces in excess of 420 rear wheel kilowatts. More was available, but commonsense and longevity dictated that such output was surely stressful for the otherwise mechanically stock 6 speed manual driveline. Less sensible (foolhardy) owners exceed this self imposed rationalisation of the risks at hand, often with catastrophic results [8] Regardless of the 'detuned' state of tune, 10psi boost pressure delivers prodigious output, performance is no doubt 'breath-taking' with a 'fire cracker' top end. [8]

While hard data remains unavailable, low 11 second time slips with 215kmh+ terminal speeds and a V max exceeding 280kmh could be, will be surely attainable. [8] These performance benchmarks are of course delivered with IAT's not exceeding 40deg Celsius, engine oil temperature of around 80 degrees Celsius, and engine coolant barely warm to the touch. Thermo fan intervention not required. Those temperature results have already been achieved in stop-start Sydney traffic in 34 degree ambient air temperature providing evidence of the T Trim packages efficiency and its ability to go as fast as stated above..."

I challenge anyone here to drive a 4.9 sec car, then a 4.5 sec car and tell the difference without timing it.

In my opinion, anything under 5 seconds is fast, anything under 4 seconds is "push you back in your seat" fast !!

Quote:
The W427 was a very over priced commodore in really that was over hyped by holden fans powered by the 7.0L [[GM LS engine#7.0 L|LS7]] V8 (which is not a Chevrolet motor like most holden fans believe
That outta stir up the Wiki editors

These parts made me laugh

It produced 417.6 kW (560 bhp) @ 6000 rpm, a top speed of 288 km/h (179 mph) and could sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 44 seconds. the FPV GT-R spec can do 0-100km/h in 4.57se

The W427 was a very over priced commodore (in which only bogan aussie 'tough guys' drive) in really

*edit* Just refreshed it and it has been deleted

http://motoring.ninemsn.com.au/cars/...-fpv-gt-r-spec

this is the quote. after they go one about the HRT 427. I made sure I put this in as they where going on about acceleration claims. now that I have quoted this they should never put up the claim of HSV W427 being the quickest car produced in australia

I've never been overly interested in the 427 in anything more than a very passing way. Myself and a lot of other people were surprised, perplexed, and puzzled when a 427 won the Bathurst Production Car race when, at the time, they'd only built one of them as an exercise and somehow Holden were allowed to put it in the race..."production"...?
