So $1.03M would have to be a new sales record for a HO?
Is the sale verified?

for a select few such sums of money are chump change....if someone has spent that coin on a non matching numbers restored some years ago ph3 then they have just burnt some money....odds are the car will be officially sold until the glossy magazines have published, read prostituted, the car has sold and the scene in australia in such vehicles is bubbling along bucking the rest of the world etc only for the car to later be said to have been passed in. like the black rpo coupe. just a marketing exercise sadly.....happy to be put to the sword if it turns out the car did in fact sell for over $1 million

Got to agree. I'm also curious if the car did actually sell?

you would think so. even now there are a number of ph3s much better than this one, overpriced nevertheless, that are better than the car that went thru "a Lloyds auction" yesterday, available for sale

Most of these auction houses just sell rubbish. The real good stuff changes hands outside the market, through clubs, specialists or word of mouth.

Interesting question. If it didn't sell, Lloyds would have missed out on the buyers premium - that in itself is a lot money.

Smile Re: Auction Immaculate HO3

as a good mate mentioned to me earlier today. this sort of auction result whether its real or bogus, sends the wrong messages to the public. the best cars tend to change hands for realistic sums without reaching the internet in many cases....if people are seriously in the market for a muscle car, the best thing to do, is get around to some shows and club meetings and learn who is who in the zoo. if you are genuine, you will get to meet the right people and often get your hands on a good car, without being fleeced....it just might take some time but patience is a virtue they say

Hello, you are correct about the H code,351-4V heads HO.

The K code is 351-2V heads.

The T code is 351-4V heads.

And all HO's had a transmission code "L" for 4 speed manual gearbox.

And some had missprinted codes on the tag and letters and numbers actually missing?

And all XYGT's had a body prefix and serial number that corresponded to the ID plate stamped on the radiator support panel on the passenger side!

Cheers Billy.

Hello,
Just a little bit more about the designation " HO "
Most think its either " Handling Option "...Bigger springs and swaybar,or more suitably " High Output "..but in reality it meant neither!
So what did it really mean?...well it meant " Homologation Option ", and that is exactly what it meant, apparently you could not insure the car for street use as it was classified as a race/track car!

Cheers Billy.

Never heard of anyone having problems insuring their new GTHO. Apart from paying a much higher premium/driver age restrictions.

Just heard on the 12:00pm news, on the radio. That the Phase 3,has sold for One Million Dollars. This has set a new record for selling Australian Muscle Cars.

Hello,
They did in 1969,but it wasn't really public knowledge, if it was they would of sold no new cars!
Brian Baldwin told me,he was the dealership manager for a major Sydney Ford dealership (not his, that was later),and I was a first year apprentice motor mechanic there.
I probably drove more GTHO XW Fords as a 16 yr old than most folk had hot dinners!

Cheers Billy.

PS..And every second car sold had a few tins of STP shoved in it to quieten noisy valve train and tappets, and that is a real on the job fact,I did all the PD's (pre-delivery) with the one mechanic who worked on them!
Some took 3 tins.Only one mechanic did the GTHO cars.

The sale that I didn’t quite believe was that someone paid 75k for the bf cobra Ute with 5000kms. You can pay 10k less for one on Carsales with less kms.

Not strictly true. In the 'original' Cleveland 351 V8s, the 4V carburettored engines had much larger head ports than the 2V carburettored versions.

Hello,
Too true Doc,plus a whole lot of other different things including valves and chambers, but you can run a four barrel on a 2V head and some two barrel carbs are pretty well up to running on 4V heads!
But there are better heads around than 4VClevo,its an Aussie thing I think, but if you want to copy or replicate an Australian Muscle car then you have to do the internals as well as it "looking" the part.

Cheers Billy.

I believe the 4V/2V head thing only applies to US built Clevelands. All Aussie Clevelands have the smaller 2V sized heads, regardless of the carby fitted.

Hello,
No need to be sorry, what for?
Did you know you can buy Boss302CHO heads, the HO means " High Output "
But Ford Australia could not use words like High Output or anything close to more or superior power, surely you must remember the early 70's and having to queue up for fuel for 5 miles just to get 5 bloody gallons, just for work for the week, and all these idiot 18 yr olds buying, driving and dieing in V8 missiles?

Cheers,King Billy to you!
