Boxing - Green (ford lover) V Drews!!

This should be a good fight, Green at his best weight in Lt Hvy.

But he is fighting a spider, 6ft 5 with a huge reach advantage. That didn't worry paul Briggs when Briggs power punched hoim out of the fight.

I was lucky enough to get great seats to watch Drews fight Briggsy, and he was the dirtiest fighter I have ever seen, tried to knee him in the nuts twice in boxing??? How he didn't get disqualified i have no idea.

But drews has gotten heaps better, and Green will have his work cut out for him to win.

P.S. Anyone see Danny greens Black XB coupe he rocked up to the press conference in?? Very tidy!! :

I saw danny's Coupe at the All Ford day over here, very tidy machine indeed, he obviously has good taste..

I still wish that Green punched the life out of Mundine! Alas it wasn't to be, and that looks to be the case for some time. Whilst Mundine is a smart alec, big mouth, boy can he fight.

I hope he belts Drews good 'n' proper he needs to show Mundine that he's improved and can make amends for the loss to Mundine,i along with alot of sandgropers were upset to see him lose to "the man".
I hope he gets another shot,make his bad eye become his good eye!!!

Mundines mouth after his fight is nothing new from a guy who's meant to be no1 yet continues to fight 2nd rate boxers.

greens win and now being champion means without a doubt there will be a rematch and i cant wait,GREEN has learnt from the previous one and i hope he puts Mundine on the canvas.

Greens a 'good' fighter but not 'good' enough for Mundine. And as for Mundine fighting 2nd rate fighters? What was drews , absolutely 2nd rate. Rematch may not happen for a while , both can draw good money anywhere. And quite frankly Greens not in Mundines class. I just wish Mundine would keep his trap shut.

Don't really know how true this is, but apparently Green was rather unwell before his fight his Mundine. He was shivering on a hotel bathroom floor, almost as white as the tiles he was lying on and very dehydrated. But being the guy he is didn't let on too much so it didn't sound as though he was making excuses for his loss.
Eithe way, great to see him as world champ and I hope he has his rematch with Mundine and wipe the floor with him.

Danny Green will turn the tables on Mundane in the re match.
I saw him beat Eric Lucas in Canada 4 years ago, he was hammered for the first 4 rounds then dug deep and came back to take the win.
He did not look himself fighting Mundane, hopefully the re match will be a fight instead of a chase around the ring.

Fenech has come out in support of him:

JEFF Fenech has said maybe a dozen words to Danny Green in the past three years. But now he wants to help shut the most controversial mouth in Australian sport.

Fenech has offered to help prepare Green for any rematch with arch rival Anthony Mundine.

Once inseparable, the pair have barely spoken since a controversial split after Green's second loss to Markus Beyer in May 2005.

But Fenech insists Green can silence the country's most controversial athlete with the help of a secret fight plan he has developed.

"If they put me in Danny Green's corner, mate, 'Choc' (Mundine) wouldn't want to fight because he knows I have the game plan to beat him," Fenech said yesterday.

"I know exactly what it takes to get over Anthony Mundine. Sure, he's defending his (interim) title now . . . but he's doing it by picking blokes who can't fight."

While Mundine outclassed Green when the pair met in April 2006, Fenech insisted his plan - "Which I'd rather not reveal just yet" - would turn the result on its head.

"Look, I'm not saying I want to come back and train Danny Green. That's not it at all," Fenech said.

"But I honestly believe Danny is someone who can beat Anthony Mundine. And I also reckon I know exactly what it takes to beat him.

"So I would love it if we could meet up. Because the Danny Green who fought Mundine that night isn't the one I know. Isn't the same fighter I used to train, either."

Fenech hinted Green would have to make slight alterations to his own style.

"Well, to be completely honest, I can't believe people are still letting Danny fight the way he is," Fenech said.

"The other night it was fine to stand in front of his opponent, walk forward and throw straight punches. Because the other bloke just didn't try. But if you're going do the same thing against Anthony Mundine, he'll kill you.

"But I know there are a few things you need to do if you want to beat Mundine. But as yet no one has done them."

Speaking from his Perth home last night, Green confirmed that Fenech had phoned to congratulate him.

"I probably started the ball rolling by thanking Jeff in my speech," Green said.

"And what I said I meant. We had some good times together and I wouldn't be where I am without him."

But he refused to discuss anything to do with an anticipated Mundine re-match except to offer a brief barb.

"I'm the official world champion, he's the reserve champion. I've beaten three or four world champions in my career, he's beat none," Green said.

Instead, Green, 34, said his only concern was enjoying his new status "for a couple of weeks" and awaiting the birth of his second child.

"This win was for all the people who've stuck by me, been with me through all the highs and lows," Green said.

"At 5am Monday morning I was sitting around with my brother and sister and some sponsors who have been with me since the very beginning. And that's what makes it so rewarding."

The 1st fight Mundine almost looked like he knew what Green was going to throw, he hardly got hit the whole fight. Green will have to alter his plan to counter and be patient to let Mundine be the impatient one

I see Anglo Hyder in the pic with Green, probably not a good sign if his history of "matching" fighters is anything to go by.
