Default Cant manually lock/unlock door with key

When i put the key to manually lock/unlock the door nothing happens. When i turn the key, the key turns very freely, not like it should. It turns like nothings there.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

the lock barrel is most likely detached from the rods in the door. pull the door trim off and have a look, it'll jump right out as to whats busted the moment you get the trim off

i took off the door trim and this little white plastic thing that is attached to the lock is broken. rang ford and they said you cant buy it seperate and that it must be bought with a new lock costing $250. is it possible to buy the part seperate from anywhere?

also sometimes the lock knob on the drivers side goes crazy and pops up and down a few times. is this caused by that white plastic part that is broken? or is the actuator gone? and sometimes when i close the drivers side door it doesnt close, it sort of bounces off. i have to slam the door a few times for it to actually lock properly. ive checked the rubber door trim but it seems fine. is this another acutator problem?

could be that the actuator is loose. may be associated with the pastic tab, but JC, GK or Mecanik1 will know better. As for getting the tab, try a wreckers, they should be able to source one for ya

the actuator needs to be secured to the door in order for it to lock and unlock the door. now if its loose or has come off it wont lock properly, and, as was the case will my old laser, will go skitz when you try and lock the car. give it a jiggle, if it moves, tighten it up/secure it and see if that works. if that doesn't fix it, you may need a new actuator

As i mentioned earlier sometimes the door doesnt close properly, it sort of bounces off. I inspected the locks closely and notcied that if you open the door from the inside handle the red mechanism keeps going higher and higher (as in video 1), whereas when you open it from the outside handle the red thing stays at the bottom (as in video 2). As the red thing gets higher and higher this causes the door not to lock when you shut it.

Video 1
Video 2

Is this normal? Or is the actuator gone?

Cheers

Just checked out the passenger door lock and the red plastic thing doesnt slide up like it does on the drivers door, it stays at the bottom of the mechanism whether opening it from the inside or outside handle. Anyone got any ideas on why this is happening and any possible solutions to stop the plastic from sliding up every time the inside handle is used.

Also what is the type of screwdriver used to unscrew the actuator? Its like a star shape. Going down the super cheap auto tomorrow, just need to know what type of screwdriver i need to buy.
