For a cool $US59,900 - that's about $56,500 in Australian currency - a replica of a car Ford never made - the 1965 Mustang wagon - is yours. Plus shipping.
The replica, built on a 1965 Mustang Coupe and using as many original parts as possible, was built about 10 years ago by US specialist body builder Joe Ramp. It is based on a single wagon built by Intermeccanica at the request of Ford advertising agency J. Walter Thompson in 1965 to be shown to Ford as a potential new model. It didn't take off. Decades later and the Intermeccanica car is long gone but Joe Ramp decided on making his own. From the Coupe, the roof is stretched and new rear side glass added to the new D-pillars. The interior has a pseudo-bench style front seat in tan vinyl. It's actually a custom centre console with a padded filler between the seats to give the illusion of a bench. Under the bonnet is a late-model fuel-injected 5-litre V8 mated to a T5 five-speed manual gearbox. Out the back is an eight-inch Ford diff and 3.00 gears, custom control arms and upgraded shocks. It's now for sale on eBay US by RK Motors of Charlotte, North Carolina with a buy-it-now price of $US59,990. Last time we looked, bidding was at $US15,100.

Before I opened the thread. I was thinking next generation Mustang/Falcon/Lincoln and different body styles.

Sweet. What a family run around...!
Best part is that underneath, those old Mustangs are just a Falcon, so parts are cheap. |

Useless as a wagon as it has no rear doors....what's the point? A gross oversight however, it is far more interesting to look at than most other wagons and I always tip my hat to the " why the he'll not" club of folk making silly but interesting things!

As for the car hey it is impracticle but in reality a hell of a lot of us on here have or do own cars that aren't exactly practicle. Doesn't make our cars any less cool.

Mustang "Shooting Brake".....love it!!
I am glad the world has people who are not constrained or driven by practicality, otherwise we would all be driving beige 4cyl Volvo station wagons with tartan interiors....

For some reason when I first read it, I thought it was round the other way (US being less expensive). My bad.

Not sure if a win.. Is there a half point between WIN-FAIL?
WIN= Unique FAIL= roof profile looks wrong.. (perhaps 40 years of being use to coupes.. *kinda reminds me of the m3 late 90's wagon.. long bonnet.. short base wagon with very little rear overhang.. |

but would be useless getting out of that door at a westfield carpark, the thing would need to open across an extra carspot

Ditch the 5 litre & T5... Insert 429 Boss, big spline toploader, 9" nodular and I reckon we're on a winner?

Seeing the relative cheapness of old Mustangs, especially ones without engines, I'd love to get one of them, a wrecked XR6 Turbo from the auctions, and mix and match away! RRS front end and rack and pinion, the excellent turbo six, and a good gearbox and possibly a bit of fiddling and try and fit the control blade rear end to the 'Stang body, and you'd have an amazing car. Anyone can drop a V8 in an old Mustang...it requires something different to really turn heads. |

In regards to 2-door wagons, the T-body Holden Gemini was like that, as was the Type 3 Volkswagen. I'm pretty sure there were more. |
