Picked up a 50th Anniversary G6E a couple of weeks ago.
Nice car and all but as I was following my AU home I was reminded of just what a great car they are. We're loaning the AU to my daughter and her husband for a couple of months - new baby, more room for two baby seats in the back than their car. After that, into the for sale section of forum :( A pic of the fleet, lol... |

i like your new limo ......very nice, the au looks a bit of alright too, but yes the au is a very good car to live with on a daily basis, and don`t take this the wrong way , but imo the au is probably one of the most reliable fords ever built, it does`nt have all the electronics of the later ones , electronic throttle, etc, but it`s little bit on the drab side on the interior compared to the modern ones,
not long ago i sat in a GS and an f6E, crikey i never realised how much dark drab interior there was in the standard au xr......anyway....., what do you like best about the G6E Ron?? |

Y'know mik, I bought the g6e 'cause the AU was getting a bit of age on it. We like our trips away, and even though it had never caused us any problems, we go to some funny, out of the way places. It played on my mind a little that we were in an 8 yr old car.
I know what you're saying about older au's. Mines an S3 Fairmont Ghia and I actually do like the interior a lot. TBH, I like the whole car a lot, lol. I got it at an auction @ 3 years old for $11K. Best buy of my life! So to the new one... I've had it two weeks and have only driven about 150kms in it. I haven't even sat down and worked out what's what with it yet (altho I used the satnav yesterday). If I had to pick one thing that impresses me at this early stage, I would say the seats. They are very, very comfortable. We're going down to Glen Innes in a couple of weeks so I'll be better able to report back with impressions. |

Maybe Mav. If they can use it I'll give it to them but it's more a timing thing.
SIL had just been promoted to dept head and now the company has been sold. He's taking over as state manager. Add to that a new baby (second one in 18months) and their lives are in turmoil, lol. Once things settle down they'll sort out a bigger car (currently SP25). |

just a thought why don't you keep it as a toy as it wouldn't be a daily driver amd you could afford to have it off the road you could tip every spare dollar and then some into it

I keep getting asked why i dont get of my AU, or why did i get another one for my G/F... its as simple as what you wrote... they are a good car... mine (although been pranged) is still a reliable and fun car... best i've ever had.
Hope something keeps you from straying to far from the AU clan

Id definently keep the AU. For when that other POS breaks down, or requires a fortune spent on its maintenance the AU will be ready to go at a moments notice, just as if you never stopped using it..

I think I spotted your "almost gone" AU today in Narangba, certainly is something different! Had some chromies on it as well??

Yeah, it was over there yesterday.
Our daughter borrowed it to visit our other daughter. No chromies but gave it a wash and polish recently. Polished the rims as well. They look ok for cheapies (RJR's). edit: just because I like the au forums I'll update that I got some Enix Senators for the FG recently. Picking up Low (F) and Superlow (R) springs for it tomorrow. Pics when I get it done |

ronwest is going, JC is gone, Mechan1k is gone. The AU 'good ole boys' are really thinning out now. If Inferno, bushbasher, UK, GK and AMB start to look like they're going to split, you know the show's over.

Be good to meet you too. I've enjoyed your posts over the years.
I guess that 5 years qualifies as "almost gone", lol. I kept it for so long because a couple of my daughters ended up working at Mt Isa and a spare car was handy for when they visited home. Unfortunately they mostly used my wife's Focus so the AU has probably done <2000kms in the last 5 years. I was never in a hurry to be rid of it. I still like it Push has come to shove as we've seeded grass into our back lawn and can't park on it. The AU is now in the way :( BTW, it's got the original front bar back on it.
