Check the web site, there is plenty of info there. Used before and is similiar to any of the high end synthetic oils. Horsepower gains of 15 - 20HP are typical over the more standard oils

Royal purple have been around for ages and have a very trusted name amongst the yank drag racing fraternity.

It is reportedly a very good oil......how good ?....who knows ?
A lot of the claims on oils are very much based on glossy marketing hype....
Like exhaust systems.....everyone will have an opinion on engine oils.....its way too diffiult to cut through the $)/! and get to the truth of the matter. At the end of the day....ensure you get the right viscosity of oil as opposed to the best sounding marketing jibberish.

Personally....you cant go wrong with the more frequently used oils like Castrol and Mobil and Havoline etc....

Reading the article in the above link shows that Royal Purple is very good stuff. Up to you as to whether it's worth the extra premium.

You would use an oil flush first to make sure all the old oil comes out...

I hear what your saying and agree to a certain extent. Its primarily designed for performance engines and used alot in drag racing whre if you have spent 15 - 20K on an engine you would want the best.

I wouldn't see the point to use it in your daily driver when there are plenty of cheaper reputable oil choices but could make for good ****y **** chit chat while stuffing your face with a Big Mac in the car park

Some in the B series section have used RP over the last few years or so, they think its great. I would use it as well if I had a special car like a GT that I dont use every day so the oil would get changed only once a year.

But as mentioned IMO it gets costly if you change the oil at 7500km intervals, if doing over 20,000kms per year like I do. So I use Penrite HPR5 (semi synthetic), which doesnt have the thickeners separating like happens with the magnatecs etc that also helps cause sludge to form, and the motor likes the fresh oil more often to help keep it clean in there.

Don't be one of those who uses it once, then goes to the other cheaper oils... The thing with oil, is you just have to make sure you get the right oil grade for your engine, doesn't matter what brand, but just keep to that brand.

If you start using Royal Purple, keep using it every oil change. Same goes with any other oils. That's the best thing you can do to your engine. Consistency

Having said that RP is very good, Im not bagging it at all. Just a bit overpriced & doesnt perform any better for the extra price. is all..

I've been using RP oil on my 5.4 3 valve since the first oil change after I bought it 2 yrs ago. Engine runs quieter and smoother than whatever it had in it when I bought it.

I'm one of those that fell for the marketing hype. I saw the ad for Nulon and thought "If it's good enough for the V8 utes series, it's good enough for my ute". Thing is, it's actually pretty good.

also, don't be tricked into thinking the colour of the oil means something. most oils have detergents and all sorts in them designed to clean your engine so they will go dirty. they still work how they are supposed to.

for the record, for the last 10-15 years i've only ever used shell helix ultra.

In theory if you change your oil regularly and use the right viscosity and type for your engine it shouldn't make much difference as far as the brand is concerned? I use Castrol GTX, it's cheap, comes in the right grade and seems to do a reasonable job.
