Gday all.
So I'm getting my car serviced and wondering if anyone can explain one of the items listed in the service book.obviously I will ask them when I drop the car of, but I've got a feeling I might aswell be asking the cat a question. In the service book it says at every scheduled service the following must be done. Inspect cooling system and degas lines for blockages. Increase engine revs to 5000 rpm and view for coolant flow into the rear passenger side expansion bottle chamber and front passenger side expansion chamber. WTF there is a rear passenger side expansion bottle???? Hopefully someone can tell me I'm reading it wrong. Apart from that what do people think about ford charging $595 to replace oil, oil filter and air filter ? |

If its just a minor service, buy your own parts, including the oil and ask them to use those. Then they will only charge for labor, which could be anywhere between $90-$150 per hour. And if you don't think your brake lines need bleeding, then tell them not to do it because that will add another $150 on top.
Sorry I cant help with your other question, I have no idea about a rear passenger side expansion bottle in XR8's.

Unless it has been done in the last 18 months, its a good idea to get a brake fluid flush done

And what service is it?
I have never paid anything like $600 for a service from ford. Most expensive so far for my XR8 is $390 odd. I believe the air filter is very expensive but that's only due at 30k from memory.

Its for 30000 k service.
Haven't priced any independents I used to be able to ring around and each dealer would give a better price. Seems they don't do that anymore they just say $595 is the price. Soon as its out of warranty ill service it my self. |

Yeah that will be the air filter. $130 odd dollars I think.
Might be worth considering an aftermarket reusable one.

The cat must be looking good OP since no one has answered your qustion yet.
Never heard of passenger rear exp. tank either, could only be an error you would think. Odd error tho if is. As for the other, i saved $175 on my 30k service, last week as have bmc air filter. Paid $425. Make sure they remove the wheels to check stuff as per service list, my idiots didn't do it. I know as the nuts were torqued to what i set them to. |

The coolant tank is on the drivers side. View the coolant flow into the rear right hand (passenger side) of the tank.
