On my Laser I use Autotecnica bulbs from Kmart ($20-25). They basically have a light blue tint on them which gives a more HID-like colour temperature but the downside is reduced outright output, increased heat and therefore lesser bulb life.

On the Eunos I have a genuine Philips/Hella HID kit. I haven't gotten around to getting pictures. I'd only consider this mod on a car with projectors, which an ED XR does have, and ideally one should have special HID projectors from an Audi or similar which has HID stock. It's pricey but the benefits are numerous - reduced wattage (35w instead of 55w), increased output, pure white colour temperature and so forth.

I was thinking about doing a HID conversion on the EF, but I soon scrapped the idea after I got the price of the kit.....$892!! And that is wholesale price, I'd hate to have to pay retail for it!

Mine was secondhand from the US, but even new it shouldn't cost that much.

If installed in reflector-style headlamps it will be extremely blinding to other traffic, to the point of being very dangerous.

These ones were designed to replace standard H4 globes without modification to the headlight. Narva makes the kit.
